Kulina was a four-year letter winner on the tennis court for Thomas More from 1983-1987.

He was the captain of the 1987 team that recorded the first final national ranking in program history as it was ranked 23rd.  As a senior, Kulina was named Academic All-America and was the KIAC champion at sixth singles and District 32 honorable mention with a 14-6 record, including three wins against Division I opponents as he was a national tournament qualifier and participant.  During his playing career, Thomas More won four KIAC championships and three NAIA District championships.  He coached the team part-time as a senior and continued to coach the team for three years following graduation.
