Baseball Drops Weekend Series to Concordia

(Crestview Hills, Ky.) – The baseball program at Thomas More dropped a four-game series to Concordia (Mich.) over the weekend (March 13-14). After this weekend TMU sits at 6-13 overall and 3-1 in conference play.

Game 1: 8-2 Concordia

• Thomas More jumped out to a 1-0 lead after a Brady Baldock single would drive in Cooper Daniels who was courteous running for Jacob Caruso.
• Concordia plated two runs in the top of the 4^th to take a 2-1 lead.
• The Saints tied the game in the bottom of the 6^th via a Casey Nowak fielder's choice that would see Daniels cross the plate once again.
• The Cardinals drove in six runs in the top of the 7^th to give Concordia an 8-2 win.

• Derek Atwood batted .500 in the game as he went 2-4.
• Jacob Caruso went 2-4 from the plate leading to the Daniels scores.
• Baldock went 2-3 while batting a run in.

• First-year pitcher Mychal Grogan (Cincinnati, Ohio/Elder) pitched six innings allowing five runs on eight hits and striking out four.
• Mitch Merke pitched one inning allowing three runs on two hits.

Game 2: 6-4 Concordia

• Concordia scored one in the 1^st, 2^nd, and 4^th, then plated three in the 7^th.
• TMU would score in the top of the 1^st via a passed ball that saw Gavin Pearson cross the plate. Brady Reynolds double to score Tyler Flick in the 2^nd.
• The Saints took the lead in the third from a double by Atwood that would see Bailey Martin score.
• After the Cardinals tied the game up at three, Baldock scored after Brett Benzinger hit a ball in play to the infield.

• Atwood went 1-4 with a rbi in game two.
• Reynolds batter 1-3 with one run batted in.

• Senior Mitchell Morris pitched six innings allowing three runs on seven hits while he struck out six batters.

Game 3: 5-1 Concordia

• The Cardinals jumped out to a big 4-0 lead in the top of the first and scored one more in the third.
• Thomas More would get a run back in the second by a Martin homerun, making the final score 5-1.

• Martin batted 2-2 with a home run and drawing a walk.
• Austin Hoeh went 1-1 from the plate as a pinch hitter.

• Ty Grimes threw six and a third innings giving up one run on five hits and would strike out three.

Game 4: 6-4 Concordia

• Concordia plated two runs in the 1^st, 4^th, and 9^th, giving the Cardinals a total of six runs.
• The Saints scored off a single by Nowak and an error by the defense to plate Reynolds.
• TMU made things interesting as they scored three runs in the 7^th to tie the game up at four and sending the game to extra innings but would ultimately fall as Concordia scored two in the 9^th.

• Nowak went 2-4 at the plate while scoring a run and batting in one as well.
• Baldock batted 1-3 with two run batted in and a walk.
• Aiden Reverman was 1-4 from the plate with a run scored.

• Mason Berger pitched three and a third, allowing four runs on for hits while striking out three.
• Zach Dugan went five innings for Thomas More, allowing two runs on four hits and striking out four.
• Noah Weingartner pitched two thirds of an inning without allowing a hit and striking out one batter.

Baseball will return to the field tomorrow, Tuesday, March 16, where they will Travel to Lourdes, Ohio to take on Lourdes University for a single nine inning game, first pitch is set for 3 p.m. ET.
