Saints swept by Walsh in Saturday's doubleheader

(NORTH CANTON, OH) – The Thomas More University baseball team was swept by Walsh in Saturday's (April 11) doubleheader. The Saints move to 13-19 on the season and 6-12 within the conference.
 
How they scored
Game 1: Walsh 8 – Thomas More 1
  • Walsh scored two runs in the fourth inning.
  • Thomas More scored their only run of the game on a solo home run from junior Nolan Krekeler (Loveland, OH / Loveland) in the top of the sixth inning.
  • The Cavaliers scored five runs in the bottom of the sixth inning before one final run in the bottom of the eighth.
Game 2: Walsh 8 - Thomas More 4 (7 innings)
  • Walsh scored a run in the second and four in the third to take a 5-0 lead.
  • Thomas More scored four runs in the top of the fifth inning. Senior Riley Poston (Lancaster, OH / Lancaster) and sophomore Chad Atchley (Peach Grove, KY / Simon Kenton) started the inning with back-to-back walks. Riley Poston scored on junior Ty Cunningham's (Fairfield, OH / Fairfield) single to centerfield before Chad Atchley scored on a single to left field by freshman Jack Geers (Harrison, OH / Harrison). Ty Cunningham scored on Nolan Krekeler's single to right field before Jack Geers came around to score from second base on an error from the Cavaliers.
  • Walsh scored two runs in the bottom of the fifth inning before scoring two more in the bottom of the sixth.
 

Game 1:
  • Nolan Krekeler went 2-4 with a home run scoring the only run for the Saints.
  • Junior Matt Resing (Independence, KY / St. Henry), sophomore Drew Barth (Fort Thomas, KY / Highlands), and junior Noah McCarty (Louisville, KY / Christian Academy of Louisville) all went 1-3 with singles.
  • Redshirt sophomore Drew Edrich (Cleves, OH / Elder) and freshman Theodore Bosio (Grand Rapids, MI / Forest Hills Northern) each had singles in their pinch-hitting appearances.
  • Jack Geers and Ty Cunningham both reached base once on walks.
Game 2:  

Game 1:
  • Redshirt sophomore Joe Stone (Waynesville, OH / Waynesville) went 6.0 innings of work in his start. He struck out five of the 31 batters he faced.
  • Senior Ian Bierbaum (Cincinnati, OH / La Salle) went two innings of relief allowing 1 run on two hits with two walks and a strike out.
Game 2:
  • Senior Kellen Sandhas (Cincinnati, OH / Elder) got the start and went 4.1 innings. He allowed eight hits, six runs, and struck out three.
  • Sophomore Logan Cones (Independence, KY / Simon Kenton) went 1.2 innings out of the bullpen allowing two runs on three hits and struck out two.
 
Up Next
The Saints will finish the series against the Cavaliers tomorrow with another doubleheader. First pitch for game 1 is scheduled for noon.
