Saints and Panthers split Friday’s doubleheader

(COLUMBUS, OH) – The Thomas More University baseball team split the doubleheader on Friday (April 3) with Ohio Dominican. The Saints won the first game 6-5 before falling in the second game 4-5. Thomas More moves to 13-16 overall on the season and 6-10 within the conference.
 
How they scored
Game 1: Thomas More 6 – Ohio Dominican 5
  • In the first inning senior Gunner Kalkhoff's (Cincinnati, OH / LaSalle) double down the left field line scored freshman Jack Geers (Harrison, OH / Harrison) from first base before Gunner Kalkhoff scored on the next pitch as junior Matt Resing (Independence, KY / St. Henry) got a hit up the middle.
  • Ohio Dominican scored four runs on four hits in the bottom of the first inning.
  • The remaining three runs for Thomas More were scored in the third inning. Jack Geers scored his second run of the day when junior Nolan Krekeler (Loveland, OH / Moeller) hit a single through the right side. Matt Resing and Nolan Krekeler both scored as freshman Ian Mann (Newport, KY / Newport Central Catholic) singled to right field before advancing to second on a fielding error by the right fielder. Ian Mann scored the final run as sophomore Drew Barth (Fort Thomas, KY / Highlands) hit a single up the middle.
  • The Panthers scored their final run in the bottom of the fourth inning but the Saints held onto the lead.
Game 2: Ohio Dominican 5 – Thomas More 4
  • Ohio Dominican scored a run in the second inning before adding two more in the third to take a 3-0 lead.
  • Junior Noah McCarty (Louisville, KY / Christian Academy of Louisville) scored on a Nolan Krekeler sacrifice fly after Noah McCarty had originally got on with a lead off single up the middle.
  • The Panthers added a run in the bottom of the fifth.
  • Ian Mann scored in the top of the sixth before the home team scored their final run on the second pitch of the bottom of the sixth inning.
  • Nolan Krekeler led off the seventh inning with a home run to left field.
  • In the top of the ninth inning, Jack Geers scored on a fielder's choice but the Saints couldn't catch the Panthers.
 

Game 1: Game 2:  

Game 1:
  • Senior Jack Perdue (Louisville, KY / Christian Academy) went three innings in his start. He allowed all five runs off 8 hits. He walked three batters and struck out two.
  • Sophomore Logan Cones (Independence, KY / Simon Kenton) earned the win after pitching four innings out of the bull pen. He allowed three hits, no runs, a walk and had 1 strike out.
Game 2:
  • Starting pitcher senior Garrett Taulbee (Felicity, OH / Felicity Franklin / Marietta) went five innings, allowing 8 hits, five runs, 1 walk and had one strike out.
  • Sophomore Dylan Thompson (Cincinnati, OH / St. Xavier) went 1.2 innings with a strikeout, 1 hit, and two walks.
  • Sophomore Cameron Snider (Amelia, OH / Bethel-Tate) closed the game with 1.1 innings of work and recorded two strikeouts.
 
Up Next
The Saints will host Lincoln Memorial for a single mid-week game on Tuesday (April 7) with first pitch scheduled for 4:00 PM. Next weekend, Thomas More will travel to Walsh to continue G-MAC play.
