Saints Sweep Waynesburg in Softball Doubleheader

(WAYNESBURG, Pa.) – The Thomas More College softball team traveled to Waynesburg, Pa. tonight to take on the Yellow Jackets in a PAC doubleheader match-up. The Saints won both games, 9-2 in the first game and 15-0 in five innings in the second game. With the wins, the Saints are now 18-12 overall and 10-0 in the PAC.

The Saints scored early, taking a 4-0 lead in the first inning. Andrea Gahan tripled and scored on an error, scoring Dallis Knotts in the process. Mary Beth Odom hit a home run to left field, bringing home Sammy Sagers. Waynesburg got on the board in the second inning, scoring one run. The Saints, however, had an answer, scoring four more runs in the fourth inning. Kenzi Dickerson hit a solo home run. Knotts doubled, advancing Laura Finke to third and scoring Amanda Lloyd. Alix DeDreu doubled down the left field line, scoring Knotts and Finke. The Yellow Jackets scored another run in the fifth inning, making the score 8-2. Finke reached first on a throwing error, scoring Lloyd.

In the second game, the Saints got on the board early, similar to the first game, scoring two runs. DeDreu singled to center, scoring Finke. Sagers stole second advancing to third and scoring Gahan. In the second inning, the Saints scored 10 runs to take a 12-0 lead. Finke singled through the left side, scoring Lloyd and Hannah Sprague. Knotts doubled to left field, scoring Finke. Sagers singled to center field, advancing DeDreu and scoring Knotts. Odom doubled to left center, scoring Sagers and DeDreu. Bree Appel singled to right center, scoring Odom and Finke doubled to right center, advanced to third on the throw which advanced Turner to third, scoring Lloyd and Appel. The Saints scored three more in the fourth inning, scoring their 15th and final run, as Knotts homered to left field, scoring Izzy Leisgang and Appel.

In the first game, Finke went 2-5, scoring one run. Knotts went 2-4, scoring two runs, getting on base on a walk and recording an RBI. Sagers went 2-3, scoring one run and Morgan Wells went 2-3. DeDreu was on the mound for the Saints, facing 27 batters, giving up two runs on five hits with two strikeouts.

In the second game, Finke went 3-3, scoring two run and four RBI's. Knotts went 2-3 with two runs and four RBI's. Appel also went 3-3, with two runs and one RBI. Sprague started the game for the Saints, facing 13 batters only allowing one hit and two strikeouts. Knotts replaced Sprague, facing four batters, for only one hit.

The Saints return to action tomorrow, April 14 at Geneva for another PAC doubleheader. The first pitch goes out at 11:00 am.
