Saints Pick Up the Sweep of Walsh on the Road

(North Canton, OH) - The Thomas More softball team swept Walsh in a doubleheader on Wednesday (April, 23rd). Thomas More took game one by a score of 8 to 3, before taking game two by a score of 5 to 3. Thomas More moves to 20-24 overall on the year and 8-14 in G-MAC play.

How they scored
Game one: Thomas More won 8-3
  • In the top of the 1st inning, first year Michelle Barth (Ft. Thomas, Ky / Highlands) put the Saints in front with an RBI single to make it 1 to 0.
  • Walsh scored three runs in the bottom of the first to take a two run lead.
  • Saints struck again in the top of the 3rd as junior Ashtyn Elbe (Cincinnati, OH / Mercy McAuley) hit an RBI single to make it a 3 to 2 game.
  • Also in the third, first year Natalie Harris (Vandalia, OH / Vandalia Butler) and first year Haylee Palmer (Lawrenceburg, IN / Lawrenceburg) hit RBI singles to give the Saints a 4 to 3 lead.
  • Senior Emily Allphin (New Richmond, OH / Milford) capped off the 3rd inning for the Saints with a two RBI double to center field to make it a 6 to 3 game.
  • Natalie Harris platted two more runs in the top of the 4th on a double to extend the lead to five runs.
Game two: Thomas More won 5-3
  • In the top of the first, Thomas More would score the first run of the game off a bases loaded walk from Natalie Harris.
  • Also in the first, Haylee Palmer hit a sacrifice fly to bring home the second run of the inning for the Saints.
  • Walsh scored two runs in the bottom of the second to tie the game up at 2-2.
  • In the top of the 7th, Natalie Harris hit a two RBI double to break the tie and make it a 4 to 2 game.
  • Haylee Palmer hit a single to bring home Harris and putting the Saints up 5 to 2.
  • Walsh scored a run in the bottom of the 7th to bring it to a 5 to 3 final.

Game one
  • First year Loghan Cromer (Hilliard, OH / Hilliard Bradley) went 2 for 2 at the plate with three runs scored and two walks.
  • Ashtyn Elbe recorded two hits across two at-bats. She recorded a triple, RBI and two walks.
  • Michelle Barth went 2 for 4 at the plate in the contest.
  • Natalie Harris recorded two hits with three RBIs.
Game two
  • Ashtyn Elbe went 2 for 4 with two runs scored on the day.
  • Natalie Harris went 2 for 3 with three RBIs, a double, walk and a run scored in the game.
  • Emily Allphin went 2 for 4 with a double in the game.

Game one
  • First year Avery Gottlieb (Ross, Ohio / Oak Hills) pitched 7.0 innings, allowing one earned run off four hits and struck out five. She picked up the win.
Game two
  • Sophomore Kylie Ropp (Bellefontaine, Ohio/Kenton Ridge) pitched 5.0 innings, allowing one earned run off six hits and struck out one.
  • Sophomore Olivia Dumm (Williamsport, Ohio/ Westfall) pitched 2.0 innings, allowing earned one off one hit and struck out one. She picked up the win.

The Saints return on Saturday (April, 26th) when they travel to Owensboro, KY to take on Kentucky Wesleyan. First pitch of the two game set is scheduled for 1:00 PM.
