Softball Splits Series With Kentucky Wesleyan to Close Out Regular Season

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 (OWENSBORO, KY.)-Thomas More University's softball team split with Kentucky Wesleyan on Saturday afternoon (April 26) by fall 6-3 in game one and won 18-4 (5-innings) in game two. The Saints finish the regular season with a record of 21-25 and 9-15.


Game one: Kentucky Wesleyan won 6-3

• Junior Sophia Thoma (Cleves, Ohio/Taylor) singled down the left field line to send in first year Natalie Harris (Vandalia, Ohio / Vandalia Butler) to put the Saints on the board 1-0 in the top of the second. 
• Kentucky Wesleyan scored two in the bottom of the seconc (1-2).
• In the top of the third inning, first year Haylee Palmer (Lawrenceburg, IN / Lawrenceburg) tripled down the left field line to score Natalie Harris to tie things up at 1-1. 
• First year Loghan Cromer (Hilliard, OH / Hilliard Bradley) scored on a bases load walk in the top of the fourth to give the Saints the 3-2 lead.
• Kentucky Wesleyan scored four in the bottom of the fifth (3-6).

Game two:

• Kentucky Wesleyan scored four runs in the bottom of the first (0-4).
• Sophia Thoma singled to the third baseman to score Natalie Harris in the top of the second inning (1-4).
• Sophomore Anna Greenwell (Ft. Thomas, Ky./Highlands) doubled to left center to send in Sophia Thoma and senior Emily Allphin (New Richmond, Ohio/ Milford) to make it a one run game (3-4).
• Junior Ashtyn Elbe (Cincinnati, Ohio/Mercy McAuley) scored on throwing error by the pitcher to tie things up at 4-4 in the top of the third. Haylee Palmer doubled to right center to send in first year Julia Abbott (Cincinnati, Ohio/Oak Hills) to give the Saints the 5-4 lead. Emily Allphin stepped up and singled down the left field line to advance Haylee Palmer and Natalie Harris home to score (7-4). First year Avery Blinn (Mason, Ohio/Mason) scored on a throwing error by the shortstop to extend the Saints lead to 8-4. Anna Greenwell would score on a wild pitch and Loghan Cromer would score on an error by the catcher to make it a 10-4 game. First year Michelle Barth (Ft. Thomas, Ky./Highlands) singled to right field tos core Adisyn Johnson for the Saints final run of the inning (11-4).
• In the top of the fourth, Emily Allphin doubled to left center to score Haylee Palmer to put the Saints on top 12-4. Sophia Thoma scored on an error by the first baseman to make it a 13-4 game. Ashtyn Elbe doubled to left field to send home Adisyn Johnson and Loghan Cromer (15-4). Ashtyn Elbe scored off a double to left center hit by Michelle Barth to extend the Saints lead to 16-4. Natalie Harris singled up the middle to score Michelle Barth to make it a 17-4 game. Haylee Palmer singled to right field to send in Natalie Harris for the final run of the inning (18-4).

Game one:

• Sophomore Adisyn Johnson (Ross, Ohio/Ross) was 2-3 at the plate.
• Haylee Palmer went 2-4 with one RBI.
• Sophia Thoma was 2-4 with one RBI.

Game two:

• Natalie Harris was 3-4 with one RBI and scored three runs.
• Haylee Palmer went 3-4 with one double, two RBIs, and scored two runs.
• Emily Allphin was 3-4 with one double, three RBIs, and scored one run.
• Ashtyn Elbe went 2-4 with one double two RBIs, and scored two runs.
• Michelle Barth was 2-4 with one double, two RBIs, and scored one run.
• Sophia Thomas went 2-3 with one RBI and scored two runs.
• Anna Greenwell was 2-3 with one double, two RBIs, and scored one run.

Game one:

• First year Avery Gottlieb (Ross, Ohio / Oak Hills) pitched 5.0 innings, allowing six earned runs off nine hits.
• Sophomore Olivia Dumm (Williamsport, Ohio/ Westfall) pitched 1.0 innings, allowing no runs and not hits.

Game two:

• Sophomore Kylie Ropp (Bellefontaine, Ohio/Kenton Ridge) pitched 5.0 innings, allowing four earned runs off six hits and struck out two. 

The Saints close out their regular season and will wait to see if they make the final spot of the G-MAC tournament.
