Box Score 2 (WAYNESBURG, Pa.) – The Thomas More College softball team swept a Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) doubleheader with Waynesburg University today (Sunday, April 10, 2016) at the Waynesburg Softball Complex in Waynesburg, Pennsylvania. The Saints won game one 5-0 and the nightcap 9-1 in six innings.
With the sweep, the Saints improve to 20-6 overall and 5-1 in the PAC, while the Yellow Jackets fall to 11-15 overall and 3-3 in the PAC.
In the first game of the day, the Saints scored four runs in the fourth and one run in the seventh and shutout Waynesburg for the 5-0 victory.
Senior pitcher Mamee Salzer (Erlanger, Ky./St. Henry) earned the win in the circle as she pitched a complete game shutout, giving up seven hits and striking out six.
Sophomore catcher Bree Appel (Amelia, Ohio/Batavia) led the team at the plate as she was three-for-three with two doubles and a run scored. Sophomore second baseman Sammy Sagers (Cincinnati, Ohio/Oak Hills) went two-for-three with a run scored.
In the nightcap, the Saints scored one run in the first, three in the second, one in the fifth and four in the sixth and held the Yellow Jackets to a run in the fourth for the 9-1 win in six innings.
Sophomore pitcher Dallis Knotts (Florence, Ky./Boone County) earned the win as she pitched four innings giving up one run (unearned) on three hits and struck out two. Freshman pitcher Alix DeDreu (Rising Sun, Ind./Rising Sun) pitched two shutout innings of relief and gave up one hit and struck out one.
Sagers led the Saints' offense as she was three-for-four with two runs batted-in. Four other Saints had multiple hits in the game as Appel was two-for-three with a two RBI, Knotts was two-for-four with a run scored and a RBI, DeDreu was two-for-four with a double, two runs scored and a RBI and freshman first baseman Mary Beth Odom (Taylor Mill, Ky./Dixie Heights) was two-for-three with a run scored.
Thomas More returns to action on Wednesday (April 13) when it hosts Grove City College in a PAC doubleheader at 3:30 p.m. at Thomas More Field in Crestview Hills, Kentucky.
