(KISSIMMEE, Fla.) – The Thomas More College softball team split two games on Sunday (March 6, 2016) during the first day of the Rebel Spring Games in Kissimmee, Florida.
To kick off their spring break games, the Saints started off with a 5-3 win over the Coe College Kohawks of Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Senior Mamee Salzer (Erlanger, Ky./St. Henry) earned the win in the circle pitching all seven innings and striking out two. At the plate, the Saints were led by sophomore catcher Bree Appel (Amelia, Ohio/Batavia) and sophomore center fielder Dallis Knotts (Florence, Ky./Boone County), each collecting two hits against the Kohawks. Saints also collecting hits this game were freshman Alix DeDreu (Rising Sun, Ind./Rising Sun) with a single and senior Staci Stewart (Erlanger, Ky./Lloyd Memorial) with a two-run homerun.
To end the day, Saints collected their first loss against the Simson College Storm of Indianola, Iowa. DeDreu gained her first collegiate loss with six innings pitched, marking five strikeouts. DeDreu also led the team at the plate, going two-for-three, including one double. Also collecting hits for the Saints was sophomore Laura Finke (Fort Wright, Ky./Notre Dame Academy) going .500 against the Storm.
The Saints return to the field March 7 at Osceola Sports Complex to face off with Central College at 1:30 p.m.and Baldwin Wallace University at 3:45 p.m.
