Saints Fall in Two Close Games Against Hillsdale

(HILLSDALE, MI) – The Thomas More University softball team fell to Hillsdale in two close games on Tuesday (April 21) by scores of 3-2 and 7-6. The Saints fall to 19-27 overall and 6-14 within the conference.
 
How they scored
Game 1: Hillsdale 3 – Thomas More 2
  • Thomas More scored two runs in the top of the first inning. Sophomore Natalie Harris (Vandalia, OH / Vandalia Butler) and sophomore Emma Fegan (Bargersville, IN / Roncalli) scored as sophomore Haylee Palmer (Lawrenceburg, IN / Lawrenceburg) hit a double to left field.
Game 2: Hillsdale 7 – Thomas More 6
  • The Saints scored five runs in the first inning. It started as Emma Fegan, who had singled up the middle to lead off, scored from second on a throwing error by the Chargers. Natalie Harris scored as Haylee Palmer grounded out. Senior Ashtyn Elbe (Cincinnati, OH / Mercy McAuley) scored on a sacrifice fly by freshman Alisha Fox (Cincinnati, OH / Mason). Senior Sophia Thoma (Cleves, OH / Taylor) hit a two-run home run to left field.
  • In the top of the fifth inning, Haylee Palmer scored as sophomore Brooklynn Couch (Lawrenceburg, IN / Lawrenceburg / Valparaiso) singled down the left field line.

Game 1:
  • Alisha Fox pitched six innings, allowing 3 runs on 8 hits. She only walked one batter and struck out three.
Game 2:
  • Junior Kylie Ropp (Bellefontaine, OH / Kenton Ridge) got the start and went 0.2 innings.
  • Sophomore Avery Gottlieb (Cincinnati, OH / Oak Hills / Lourdes University) pitched 5.1 innings of relief before Alisha Fox closed the game.
 
Up Next
The Saints will return home to finish the regular season. They first host Ursuline College on Saturday (April 25). The first game of the doubleheader is scheduled to begin at 12:00 PM.
