Softball Sweeps Lake Erie on Senior Day

(CRESTVIEW HILLS, Ky.)-Thomas More University's softball team defeated Lake Erie on Sunday (April 26) 6-5 in game one and 4-2 in game two. The Saints overall record improves to 22-28 and 9-15 in conference.

How they scored
Game one: Thomas More won 6-5
  • In the bottom of the second inning, sophomore Emma Fegan (Bargersville, Ind./Roncalli) singled to the shortstop to score senior Sophia Thoma (Cleves, Ohio/Taylor) to make it a 1-0 game. 
  • First year Alisha Fox (Mason, Ohio/Mason) singled up the middle to send in senior Ashtyn Elbe (Cincinnati, Ohio/Mercy McAuley) to put the Saints up 2-0 in the bottom of the third. Sophomore Brooklyn Couch (Lawrenceburg, Ind./Lawrenceburg) homered over the left field fence to extend the lead to 5-0. 
  • Lake Erie scored four in the fourth and one in the fifth to tie things up 5-5.
  • Alisha Fox singled to right field to walk it off for the Saints and score Ashtyn Elbe to secure the Saints 6-5 victory of Lake Erie.
Game two: Thomas More won 4-2
  • Lake Erie scored one run in the third (0-1).
  • Sophomore Natalie Harris (Vandalia, Ohio/Vandalia Butler) doubled to left center in the bottom of the third to score junior Anna Greenwell (Ft. Thomas, Ky./Highlands) and junior Adi Johnson (Ross, Ohio/Ross) to put the Saints up 2-1. Brooklyn Couch singled through the left side to bring in Natalie Harris to extend the Saints lead to 3-1.
  • In the bottom of the fifth inning, Sophia Thoma brought in Haylee Palmer with a ball hit to the short stop to make it a 4-1 game.
  • Lake Erie scored one run on the sixth inning (4-2).

Game one:
  • Ashtyn Elbe was 3-4 with a triple, a double, and scored two runs.
  • Sophomore Haylee Palmer (Lawrenceburg, Ind./Lawrenceburg) went 2-3 and scored one run.
  • Alisha Fox was 2-4 with two RBIs and scored one run.
Game two:
  • Haylee Palmer went 2-4 with two doubles and scored one run.
  • Brooklyn Couch was 2-4 with one RBI.
  • Anna Greenwell went 2-3 at the plate and scored one run.
  • Adi Johnson was 1-2 and scored one run.

Game one:
  • Alisha Fox pitched 7.0 innings, allowing five earned runs off 11 hits and struck out seven.
Game two:
  • Junior Kylie Ropp (Bellefontaine, Ohio/Kenton Ridge) pitched 2.1 innings, allowing one earned run off three hits.
  • Sophomore Avery Gottlieb (Cincinnati, Ohio/Oak Hills) pitched 4.2 innings, allowing one unearned run off two hits and struck out three.
