Box Score 2 (CRESTVIEW HILLS, Ky.) – The Thomas More College baseball team swept a Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) doubleheader with Waynesburg University today (Saturday, March 26, 2016) at Thomas More Field in Crestview Hills, Kentucky. The Saints won game one, 6-1, and the night cap, 6-3.
With the sweep, the Saints improve to 8-3 overall and 3-0 in the PAC and the Yellow Jackets fall to 1-13 overall and 0-3 in the PAC.
In the first game of the day, the Saints plated four runs in the first, one in the fourth and one in the sixth, while holding Waynesburg to only one run in the sixth for the 6-1 victory.
Senior pitcher Tim Baldrick (Cincinnati, Ohio/Elder) earned the win as he pitched all seven innings and gave up one run (earned) on two hits and struck out four.
Sophomore third baseman Bailey Abbatiello (Cincinnati, Ohio/LaSalle) led the team at the plate as he was two-for-three with a run scored and a run batted-in. Freshman designated hitter Sean Lawrence (Independence, Ky./Simon Kenton) was one-for-three with two RBI, junior center fielder Casey Metzger (Cincinnati, Ohio/Oak Hills) was one-for-two with a home run, two runs scored and a RBI and freshman catcher Sam Hauer (Cincinnati, Ohio/Elder) was one-for-three with a run scored and a RBI.
In the night cap, the Saints plated two runs in the first, three in the third and one in the fifth and held Waynesburg to three runs in the third for the 6-3 victory.
Three Saints had multiple hits in the game as sophomore second baseman Ben Laumann (Cincinnati, Ohio/Oak Hills) was two-for-three with two doubles and two runs scored, junior right fielder Ben Kenning (Cincinnati, Ohio/Elder) was two-for-three with a double, two runs scored and two RBI and senior left fielder Zach Fardo (Alexandria, Ky./Bishop Brossart) was two-for-three with a run scored and to RBI.
Sophomore pitcher Brandon Eliadis (Lawrenceburg, Ky./Anderson County) earned the win as he pitched five innings giving up three runs (all earned) on four hits and struck out one. Lawrence earned the save as he pitched two innings shutout innings and gave up three hits, while striking out two.
Thomas More returns to the diamond on Wednesday (March 30) when it hosts in-state rival Centre College at 4 p.m. at Thomas More Field.
