Baseball Takes Game Two From the Cavaliers to Split Day Two of Series

(NORTH CANTON, Ohio)-Thomas More University's baseball team split with Walsh on Sunday (April 12), falling 8-7 (8-innings) in game one and winning game two 6-2 (8-innings). The Saints overall record is now 14-20 and 7-13 in conference. 

How they scored
Game one:
  • Senior Gunner Kalkhoff (Cincinnati, Ohio/La Salle) singled to center field to score first year Ian Mann (Newport, Ky./Newport Central Catholic) in the top of the first inning to put the Saints up 1-0. Senior Riley Poston (Lancaster, Ohio/Lancaster) would step up and single to center field to bring in Gunner Kalkhoff to make it a 2-0 game. 
  • Walsh scored three runs in the first and two runs in the second (2-5).
  • In the top of the third inning, Junior Nolan Krekeler (Loveland, Ohio/Moeller) scored off a ground out to the short stop hit by Riley Poston to put the Saints within two runs (3-5). Sophomore Drew Barth (Ft. Thomas, Ky./Highlands) singled to left field to send in junior Noah McCarty (Louisville, Ky./Christian Academy of Louisville) and Gunner Kalkhoff to tie things up 5-5.
  • Nolan Krekeler would step up to the plate in the top of the fourth and single to left field to score first year Jack Geers (Harrison, Ohio/Harrison) to give the Saints the go ahead lead 6-5.
  • Walsh would score one run in the seventh (6-6).
  • Junior Matt Resing (Independence, Ky./St. Henry) hit a sac fly to center field to score first year Sean O'Donnell (Pittsburgh, Pa./North Allegheny) to put the Saints ahead in top of the eighth (7-6).
  • Walsh would score two runs in the eighth (7-8).
Game two:
  • In the top of the third inning, Matt Resing doubled to center field to send in junior Ty Cunningham (Fairfield, Ohio/Fairfield) to make it a 1-0 game.
  • Walsh scored one run in the seventh (1-1).
  • In the top of the eighth inning, Ty Cunningham scored on error by the third baseman to give the Saints a 2-1 lead. Gunner Kalkhoff would single to right field to advance Jack Geers home to extend the lead to 3-1. Riley Poston stepped up and doubled to left field to bring home Nolan Krekeler and Ian Mann to make it a 5-1 game. Gunner Kalkhoff scored on a wild pitch to put the Saints up 6-1. 
  • Walsh scored one run in the eighth (6-2).

Game one:
  • Senior Jack Perdue (Louisville, Ky./Christian Academy) pitched 5.0 innings, allowing five runs with four earned off eight hits and struck out three.
  • First year Adam Forton (Ft. Thomas, Ky./Highlands) pitched 2.2 innings, allowing three runs with two earned off three hits and struck out one. 
Game two:
  • Senior Garrett Taulbee (Felicity, Ohio/Felicity) pitched 6.2 innings, allowing one earned run off two hits and struck out nine.
  • Sophomore Aaron Wichmann (Burlington, Ky./Conner) pitched 0.2 innings, allowing one unearned run off one hit.
  • Sophomore Cameron Snider (Amelia, Ohio/Bethel-Tate) pitched 0.2 innings, allowing no runs and no hits and struck out two.
