Kentucky Wesleyan sweeps Saints in Sunday doubleheader

(FLORENCE, KY) – The Thoams More University baseball team was swept by Kentucky Wesleyan on Sunday (April 19) by scores of 10-4 and 14-2. The Saints fall to 15-23 overall and 8-16 within the conference.
 
How they scored
Game 1: Kentucky Wesleyan 10 – Thomas More 4 (7 innings)
  • Kentucky Wesleyan took a 5-0 lead heading into the bottom of the third.
  • Freshman Sean O'Donnell (Pittsburgh, PA / North Allegheny / USC Lancaster) hit a two-run home run to right center, scoring freshman Theodore Bosio (Grand Rapids, MI / Forest Hills Northern) who had reached on a walk in the bottom of the third inning.
  • Freshman Jack Geers (Harrison, OH / Harrison) hit a double to centerfield before scoring on an error by the Panthers.
  • The Panthers scored two more runs before Jack Geers' single to right center scored senior Riley Poston (Lancaster, OH / Lancaster) in the bottom of the sixth.
  • Kentucky Wesleyan scored two more runs in the top of the seventh.
Game 2: Kentucky Wesleyan 14 – Thomas More 2 (7 innings)
  • The Panthers took an 11-0 lead before junior Nolan Krekeler (Loveland, OH / Moeller) scored on a sacrifice fly by freshman Ian Mann (Newport, KY / Newport Central Catholic) in the bottom of the fourth inning.
  • Kentucky Wesleyan scored a run in the top of the sixth.
  • Ian Mann hit a solo home run to right center field in the bottom of the sixth inning.
 

Game 1:
  • Senior Gunner Kalkhoff (Cincinnati, OH / LaSalle) went 3-4 with three singles.
  • Jack Geers went 2-3 with a double and a walk. He had an RBI and scored a run.
  • Sean O'Donnell went 1-1 with a home run, a walk, and a hit by pitch. He had 2 RBIs.
  • Jack Geers and Ian Mann each had a stolen base.
Game 2:  

Game 1:
  • Senior Jack Perdue (Louisville, KY / Christian Academy) went three innings of work. He struck out three of the 20 batters he faced.
  • Senior Ian Bierbaum (Cincinnati, OH / LaSalle) went 2.2 innings of relief and had three strikeouts while only walking one batter.
  • Freshman Will Harrison (Nicholasville, KY / East Jessamine) closed the game with an inning of work.
Game 2:
  • Senior Garrett Taulbee (Felicity, OH / Felicity Franklin / Marietta) went three innings in his start.
  • Senior Tony Spangler (Sprinboro, OH / Springboro) had an inning on the mound before Cameron Snider came in for two innings.
  • Matt Resing closed the game, facing four batters, allowing one hit and had one strikeout.
 
Up Next
The Saints will host Miami-Hamilton on Tuesday (April 21) for a nine-inning game at 2:00 PM before hosting Malone in their final home series of the season on Friday and Saturday (April 24 and 25).
