(KISSIMMEE, Fla.) - The Thomas More College softball team swept its doubleheader today (Thursday, March 10, 2016) on day four of the Rebel Spring Games in Kissimmee, Florida. The Saints defeated Bluffton University 7-3 and Mitchell College 11-0.
With the sweep the Saints improve to 6-2 on the season.
In the win over Bluffton, the Saints scored three runs in the third inning and finished with four more runs in the fourth. In the circle, senior Mamee Salzer (Independence, Ky./St. Henry) earned the win limiting the Beavers to only three runs, while freshman Alix DeDreu (Rising Sun, Ind./Rising Sun) earned the save, pitching three and a third innings and striking out eight. On offense, the Saints were led by freshman Whitney Quillen (Dayton, Ky./Highlands) and sophomore Laura Finke (Fort Wright, Ky./Notre Dame Academy) as they each collected two hits against the Beavers' ace.
In the win against Mitchell, Saints pitching dominated with sophomore Dallis Knotts (Florence, Ky./Boone County) in the circle, earning her first collegiate no hitter against the Mariners. Knotts and senior Ana Walter (Lebanon, Ohio/Lebanon) led the team at the plate, each scoring two runs and earning two RBIs. Knotts was three-for-three and Walter was two-for-three. Also collecting two hits for the Saints were Salzer and Finke.
The Saints conclude their Spring trip with a doubleheader Friday, March 11, against Messiah College at 9 a.m. and Husson University at 1:30 p.m. at the Osceola County Softball Complex in Kissimmee, Florida.
