Box Score 2 (CRESTVIEW HILLS, Ky.) - The Thomas More College baseball team split a Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) doubleheader with Waynesburg University today (Saturday, April 12, 2014) at Thomas More Field in Crestview Hills, Kentucky. Waynesburg won game one, 12-3, and the Saints won the nightcap, 8-3.
With the split, the Saints are 13-10 overall and 8-3 in the PAC and the Yellow Jackets are 11-15 overall and 7-4 in the PAC.
In the first game of the day, Waynesburg scored four in the third, three in the fifth and sixth and two in the seventh, while holding Thomas More to two runs in the third and one in the fifth.
Junior pitcher Tim Baldrick (Cincinnati, Ohio/Elder) suffered the loss the mound as he pitched four and a third innings and gave up seven runs (three earned) on seven hits, while striking out two and walking one.
Senior right fielder Cody Makin (Cincinnati, Ohio/Elder) led the team at the plate as he was one-for-three with a run batted-in.
In the nightcap, Thomas More scored three in the third, four in the fifth and one in the sixth and held the Yellow Jackets to single runs in the first, third and fourth inning for the 8-3 victory.
Sophomore pitcher Logan Miller (Cincinnati, Ohio/LaSalle) earned the win as he pitched a complete game seven innings and gave up three runs (two earned) on eight hits, while striking out four.
Sophomore designated hitter Donovan Pogue (Sharonville, Ohio/St. Xavier) led the team at the plate as he was three-for-four with a RBI and a run scored. Three other Saints had multiple hits in the game as senior second baseman/left fielder Jason Handley (Cincinnati, Ohio/Oak Hills) was two-for-four with two runs scored, junior first baseman Craig Hyson (Cincinnati, Ohio/McNicholas) was two-for-two with a double and two runs scored and Makin was two-for-four with two RBI and a run scored.
Thomas More and Waynesburg will close out the three-game PAC series tomorrow (Sunday, April 13) with a single nine-inning game. First pitch is scheduled for 12 p.m. at Thomas More Field.
