Baseball Defeats Lindsey Wilson to Keep Season Alive in MSC Tournament

(Bowling Green, Ky.) - The baseball program at Thomas More defeated Lindsey Wilson in the the quarterfinals of the loser bracket to move on to the semifinals of the MSC Tournament where they will take on the winner of Bethel/Georgetown tomorrow 3 p.m. CT/4 p.m. ET.

  • The Blue Raiders tallied all of their runs in the top of the first to take a commanding 3-0 lead.
  • The Saints would score their first run in the top of the second after Cooper Daniels crossed the plate on an error by Lindsey Wilson.
  • Thomas More bats woke up in the top of the sixth as they would drive in five runs in the inning. After being hit by a pitch Casey Nowak came around to score as Bailey Martin smacked a double to deep right field.
  • Derek Atwood and Jacob Caruso both singled in the inning to score Brady Reynolds and Martin. Brady Baldock and Brett Benzinger both singled as well to score Atwood and Daniels (courteous running for Caruso) to score the final two runs of the inning making the score 6-3 in favor of TMU.
  • The Saints would add one more insurance run in the top of the ninth as Atwood would hit a bomb to right field, bringing the final score of 7-3.

  • Atwood went two-for-five from the dish with two rbi's, two runs scored, and a homerun.
  • Reynolds had two hits in four plate appearances while crossing the plate once.
  • Benzinger was one-for-three with a run batted in and drawing a walk.
  • Baldock added one hit with one rbi.
  • Martin went one-for-five from the plate with one rbi, one run scored, and a double.

  • After giving up three runs in the first inning the big lefty Mitchell Morris allowed only three hits over his final six frames pitched earning the win.
  • Zach Dugan would come in for the Saints and close the door on the Blue Raiders allowing no runs on only two hits in two innings pitched.

The Saints will return to the diamond tomorrow where they will face the winner of Bethel/Georgetown in the semifinals of the second chance bracket in the MSC Tournament at 3 p.m. CT/4 p.m. ET.
