Saints get walk-off in game one of Senior Day doubleheader

(FLORENCE, KY) – Thomas More University's baseball team split with Malone in Saturday's (April 25) doubleheader. Noah McCarty hit a walk-off single as the Saints won the first game by a score of 7-6 before falling to the Pioneers 14-6 in game two. The Saints move to 17-26 overall and 10-18 within the conference.
 
How they scored
Game 1: Thomas More 7 – Malone 6 (7 innings)
  • Malone scored a run in the top of the first inning before Thomas More responded with their own run in the bottom half of the inning as junior Matt Resing (Independence, KY / St. Henry) hit a home run to right field.
  • The Saints responded to a Pioneers run with four runs within the bottom of the third inning. Freshman Ian Mann (Newport, KY / Newport Central Catholic) scored on a throwing error by the catcher before junior Ty Cunningham (Fairfield, OH / Fairfield) scored as Matt Resing hit a bunt. Matt Resing then scored as junior Nolan Krekeler (Loveland, OH / Moeller) doubled to center field before he later scored on a junior Noah McCarty (Louisville, KY / Christian Academy of Louisville) single
  • Malone got within a run after the fourth inning before taking a one-run lead in the top of the fifth inning.
  • Ty Cunningham scored in the bottom of the fifth to tie the game.
  • In the bottom of the seventh inning, Matt Resing hit a double to left field before moving to third as the Saints loaded the bases. Noah McCarty drove Matt Resing in as he hit a single down the left field line.
Game 2: Malone 14 – Thomas More 6
  • The offense for both teams got going early. Malone scored three runs in the top of the first inning before Thomas More scored four in the bottom of the first inning. Nolan Krekeler scored from first base as senior Gunner Kalkhoff (Cincinnati, OH / LaSalle) reached first on an error before advancing to second base. With the bases loaded, sophomore Drew Barth (Fort Thomas, KY / Highlands) hit a double to right center field, driving in three runs.
  • The Pioneers added a run in the top of the second before the game turned into a defensive battle for a few innings.
  • Malone scored three runs in the top of the sixth.
  • Matt Resing hit his second home run of the day, this time to left field to drive in two runs in the bottom of the seventh inning.
  • The Pioneers added four runs in the top of the 8th and three runs in the 9th.
  • Thomas More added a run in the bottom of the ninth as Ty Cunningham scored as freshman Jack Geers (Harrison, OH / Harrison) hit a double to right center but the Saint were unable to catch the visitors.
 

Game 1:
  • Matt Resing went 3-3 with a double and a home run, scoring three runs and driving in two. He also reached on a walk.
  • Nolan Krekeler went 2-3 with a double and a walk. He scored a run and had 1 RBI.
  • Noah McCarty went 2-4 and drove in two runs.
Game 2:  

Game 1:
  • Senior Jack Perdue (Louisville, KY / Christian Academy) went four innings of work in his start. He allowed 9 hits and 4 runs. He struck out three of the 23 batters he faced.
  • Sophomore Logan Cones (Independence, KY / Simon Kenton) finished the game allowing three hits, two runs, two walks, and recording three strikeouts in his three innings of work.
Game 2:
  • Senior Garrett Taulbee (Felicity, OH / Felicity Franklin / Marietta) went five innings of work allowing five hits and four runs. He struck out six batters.
  • Freshman Adam Forton (Fort Thomas, KY / Highlands) went 2.1 innings before sophomore Cameron Snider (Amelia, OH / Bethel-Tate) came in for 0.2 innings of work. Both had two strikeouts.
  • Freshman Keeton Bach (Augusta, KY / Augusta closed the game, pitching the ninth inning.
 
Up Next
The Saints will head on the road to finish the regular season. Their first stop will be for a single game at Miami Hamilton on Tuesday (April 28). First pitch is scheduled for 2:00 P.M.
