Baseball Rises Above .500 With Win Over Marian

(Crestview Hills, Ky.) - The baseball program at Thomas More defeated Marian by a score of 10-9 on Wednesday, April 7. After winning 12 of their last 16 the Saints are above .500 for the first time this season sitting at 18-17 overall.

  • Marian jumped out to an early 3-0 lead in the top of the first. The Knights scored one more run in the third and fifth, three in the seventh and one in the ninth.
  • Bailey Martin added the first two runs of the game for TMU as the sophomore second baseman singled to right field and would drive in Casey Nowak and Derek Atwood.
  • Martin scored in the third on a double by Tyler Flick, Flick would come around to score off of a Jacob Caruso Single to make the score four all after three.
  • Nowak scored on an error by Marian that saw Brady Baldock reach base, Baldock would come around to score off of a double my Martin bringing the score to 6-4 Saints.
  • Brett Benzinger hit a single to center field to score Flick and Cooper Daniels, making the score 8-5 Thomas More.
  • Benzinger would add to his impressive day with a double to deep right field scoring the game winning runs in Flick and Daniels, bringing the final score of 10-9.

  • Benzinger batted three-for-four from the plate with four rbi's, two doubles, and a walk.
  • Martin also went three-for-four from the plate with two rbi's, one run scored, a double, and a walk.
  • Flick hit three-for-five on the evening with one run batted in, three runs scored, and a double.
  • Nowak batted .500 on the day with two hits, two runs scored, two walks, and a stolen base.
  • Caruso was two-for-five from the plate with one run batted in.

  • Mason Berger threw four and a third innings allowing five runs, on four hits, while striking out four and earning the win.
  • Hunter Nantz pitched two innings in relief allowing one run on four hits earning the save.

Baseball will return to the diamond on Friday, April 9, when they travel to Georgetown Kentucky to take on the Georgetown College Tigers in a three game Mid-South Conference series, first pitch is set for 6 p.m. ET.
