Saints Go 1-1 on Final Day of Bear Creek Tournament

(ONEIDA, Tenn.) – The Thomas More University softball team split a pair of games on the final day of the Bear Creek Tournament on Sunday (February 23, 2020), hanging on for a 2-1 win over the University of Rio Grande in the first game and falling 12-0 to Webber International University in the final game.

RIO GRANDE GAME

  • Rio Grande opened the scoring with a run in the bottom of the first.
  • Thomas More scored their two runs in the third inning when sophomore Lindsey Meier (Fort Wright, Ky./Notre Dame Academy) crossed the plate on an error, then sophomore Elana Harrison (Mason, Ohio/Mason) drove home pinch runner junior Valerie Hudepohl (Cincinnati, Ohio/Oak Hills) with an RBI single to conclude the scoring.

  • Meier was 2-for-4 with a run.
  • Senior Andrea Gahan (Cincinnati, Ohio/Oak Hills) was 2-for-4.
  • Senior Sydney Turner (Harrison, Ohio/Harrison) had a pair of hits as she went 2-for-3.
  • Harrison was 1-for-3 with an RBI.
  • First-year Hailey McAdoo (Cincinnati, Ohio/Mercy McAuley) went 1-for-3 to collect her first hit in a Saints uniform. 
  • Senior Amanda Lloyd (Alexandria, Ky./Bishop Brossart) went 1-for-4.

  • First-year Annika Gels (Eaton, Ohio/Eaton) earned her first career win with a complete game victory, scattering eight hits and a walk over seven innings while allowing just one run and striking out four.

WEBBER INTERNATIONAL GAME

  • The Warriors opened the game with a run in the top of the first.
  • Webber International added two more in the second inning to make it a 3-0 game.
  • The Warriors broke the game open with seven runs in the third inning to extend their lead to 10-0.
  • Webber International scored one in the fourth to make it an 11-0 game.
  • The Warriors capped off the scoring with a run in the fifth to extend their lead to 12-0

  • Meier collected a pair of hits as she went 2-for-2.
  • Gahan went 1-for-2 with a double.

  • Senior Kianah Towe (West Chester, Ohio/Lakota East) took the loss after allowing seven runs, six earned, on eight hits and a walk over two innings.
  • First-year Hannah Bishop (Union, Ky./Ryle) pitched three innings and give up two earned rus on six hits.

  • The Saints moved to 2-2 overall.

  • Thomas More will travel to Columbus, Ga. for the NFCA Leadoff Classic on February 28-29.
