Box Score (ALFRED, N.Y.) – The 16th-ranked and top-seeded Thomas More University softball team advanced to the championship series of the American Collegiate Athletic Association (ACAA) Tournament as it defeated second-seeded Finlandia University, 9-0, in five innings today (Saturday, May 4, 2019) in the winner's bracket finals at the Pioneer Softball Field in Alfred, New York. The Saints improve to 31-9 and the Lions fall to 11-23.
- Thomas More led 4-0 after one inning as junior first baseman Andrea Gahan (Cincinnati, Ohio/Oak Hills) had a RBI single scoring senior third baseman Whitney Quillen (Dayton, Ohio/Highlands), senior pitcher Alix DeDreu (Rising Sun, Ind./Rising Sun) scored on a RBI single by senior shortstop Mary Beth Odom (Taylor Mill, Ky./Dixie Heights), junior catcher Kenzi Dickerson (Union, Ky./Ryle) had a RBI single bring Gahan home and Odom scored on a wild pitch.
- In the second inning, Quillen scored on a Gahan RBI double and DeDreu scored on an Odom sacrifice fly to extend the lead to 6-0.
- The Saints made the score 8-0 in the third inning as DeDreu had a two-run double scoring Quillen and junior right fielder Amanda Lloyd (Alexandria, Ky./Bishop Brossart).
- In the fourth inning, Odom scored on a fly ball by senior left fielder Morgan Wells (Cincinnati, Ohio/McAuley) for the final score of 9-0.
- DeDreu earned the win as she pitched four shutout innings giving up three hits, while striking out four.
- Junior pitcher Kianah Towe (West Chester, Ohio/Lakota East) pitched a scoreless fifth inning not allowing a hit and striking out two.
- DeDreu led the Saints at the plate as she was three-for-three with a double, two RBI and two runs scored.
- Quillen was three-for-three with three runs scored.
- Gahan was two-for-three with a double, two RBI and a run scored.
- Odom was two-for-two with two RBI and two runs scored.
- Dickerson was two-for-three with a RBI.
- Lloyd was one-for-two with a run scored.
- Thomas More will play either Finlandia or third-seeded Alfred State College tomorrow in the championship series at Pioneer Softball Field in Alfred, New York.
- The Saints must win one of the two championship games with the first game at 12 p.m. and the "if necessary" game at 2 p.m.
