Softball Split Double Header Against Westminster

(CRESTVIEW HILLS, Ky.) – The Thomas More College softball team hosted Westminster College tonight for a battle for the top seed in the conference. The Saints split with the Titans in the PAC double header, winning 2-1 in the first game and falling 5-3 in the second. With the split, the Saints moved to 25-13 overall and 15-1 in the PAC while Westminster moved to 23-7 overall and 14-2 in the PAC.

The first game was a battle of the pitchers. Both teams went scoreless until the Saints rallied with two outs in the bottom of the fifth inning, scoring the first run of the game. Amanda Lloyd singled up the middle, scoring Danielle Piening. Westminster tied it up 1-1 in the top of the sixth off a RBI single. Going into the bottom of the seventh inning, the Saints and Titans were tied at 1-1. With two outs, Lloyd singled to second base, advancing Mary Beth Odom to second and scoring Sammy Sagers for the game winning run, giving Lloyd the walk-off base hit.

In game two, the Titans got ahead early, scoring three in the first inning. The Saints answered back, scoring one run in the bottom of the first, cutting the lead to two. Alix DeDreu singled, scoring Laura Finke. The Saints would score again in the third inning, cutting the lead to one. DeDreu singled to right field, scoring Finke. Westminster extended its lead back up to three off a two run home run. Thomas More countered, scoring one run in the bottom of the fifth inning. Dallis Knotts singled up the middle, sending Finke to home for the final run of the game and sending Westminster off with a 5-3 victory.

DeDreu was on the mound for the Saints in the first game, facing 27 batters, giving up only four hits, one run, and recording nine strikeouts. The Saints recorded only five hits, scoring two runs. Andrea Gahan and Kenzi Dickerson both went 1-3 at the plate; Lloyd went 2-3, with two RBI's. Odom went 1-2, getting on base from a walk. Sagers got on base from a walk and scored one run.

Hannah Sprague started the game for the Saints, giving up the three runs in the first inning. Knotts replaced her getting the Saints out of the first inning. Sprague faced eight batters giving up four hits for three runs, recording two strikeouts. Knotts faced 26 batters, giving up two runs off six hits, recording four strikeouts. Finke went 3-4 at the plate, scoring three runs. DeDreu went 3-3, recording two RBI's. Knotts went 1-3, recording a RBI. 

The Saints will play in their final game of the regular season on April 28, hosting Thiel College for Senior Day. The first pitch will go out at 1:00 pm.
