Saints Run Rule Waynesburg Twice in PAC Doubleheader

(CRESTVIEW HILLS, Ky.) – The Thomas More College softball team run ruled Waynesburg University twice today (Saturday, April 8, 2017) as it swept the Yellow Jackets in a Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) doubleheader at Thomas More Field in Crestview Hills, Kentucky.  The Saints won game one, 8-0, in five innings and the nightcap, 11-3, in five innings.

With the sweep, the Saints improve to 17-7 overall and 6-0 in the PAC, while the Yellow Jackets fall to 6-15-1 overall and 2-4 in the PAC.

In the first game of the day Thomas More scored three runs in the fourth and five in the fifth, while sophomore pitcher Alix DeDreu (Rising Sun, Ind./Rising Sun) shut down Waynesburg for the 8-0 victory.  DeDreu earned the win as she pitched five shutout innings and gave up only three hits, while striking out five.

Thomas More had 12 hits in the game and four Saints had multiple hits.  First-year designated player Kenzie Dickerson (Union, Ky./Ryle) was two-for-three with a home run, a run scored and three runs batted-in and sophomore third baseman Mary Beth Odom (Taylor Mill, Ky./Dixie Heights) was two-for-three with a home run, a run scored and three RBI.  DeDreu was two-for-three with a double and a run scored and junior second baseman Sammy Sagers (Cincinnati, Ohio/Oak Hills) was two-for-three with a double and two runs scored.

In the nightcap the Saints scored three in the second, four in the third and four in the fifth and held Waynesburg to three in the fourth for the 11-3 victory.  Junior pitcher Dallis Knotts (Florence, Ky./Boone County) pitched three and a third innings and gave up three runs (all earned) on five hits and struck out six.  Sophomore pitcher Hannah Sprague (Bright, Ind./East Central) pitched one and two and a third shutout innings of a relief only allowed one hit, while striking out two.

The Saints' offense was led by Sagers, who was three-for-three with two home runs, three runs scored and five RBI.  Odom was two-for-three with a home run two runs scored and three RBI, Dickerson was two-for-three with a double, a run scored and a RBI and junior catcher Bree Appel (Amelia, Ohio/Batavia) was two-for-three with two runs scored and three RBI.

Thomas More returns to action on Thursday (April 13) when it travels to Grove City, Pennsylvania for a 3:30 p.m. PAC doubleheader with Grove City College.
