Box Score 2 (BEAVER FALLS, Pa.) – The Thomas More College softball team swept a Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) doubleheader today (Friday, April 8, 2016) against Geneva College at Conrady Field in Beaver Falls, Pennsylvania. The Saints won game one, 7-2, and the nightcap, 11-0, in five innings.
With the sweep, the Saints improve to 18-6 overall and 3-1 in the PAC and the Golden Tornadoes fall to 10-10 overall and 0-4 in the PAC.
In the first game of the day, the Saints scored three runs in the second, one in the third, two in the fifth and one in the seventh and held Geneva to a run in the fifth and one in the sixth for the 7-2 victory.
Four Saints finished with multiple hits in the game as senior shortstop Ana Walter (Lebanon, Ohio/Lebanon) was three-for-five with a double and a run batted-in, senior pitcher Mamee Salzer (Erlanger, Ky./St. Henry) was three-for-four with a home run, two runs scored and a RBI, sophomore second baseman Sammy Sagers (Cincinnati, Ohio/Oak Hills) was two-for-four with two runs scored and junior designated player Kayla Fulcher (Mason, Ohio/Cincinnati Christian) was two-for-three.
Salzer earned the win in the circle as she pitched seven innings and gave up two runs (both earned) on seven hits, while striking out five.
In game two, the Saints scored five in the first, one in the fourth and five in the fifth and shutout Geneva for the 11-0 victory.
In the circle, sophomore pitcher Dallis Knotts (Florence, Ky./Boone County) earned the win as she piched four shutout innings, while giving up three hits. Freshman Hannah Sprague (Bright, Ind./East Central) pitched one shutout inning of relief and gave up five hits.
At the plate, Thomas More had five players that had multiple hits in the game and was led by Walter, who was two-for-four with a home run, two runs scored and three RBI and freshman center fielder Alix DeDreu (Rising Sun, Ind./Rising Sun), who was two-for-three with a double, a run scored and two RBI. Sagers was two-for-three with a double, a run scored and a RBI, freshman third baseman Whitney Quillen (Dayton, Ky./Highlands) was two-for-three with a run scored and Fulcher was two-for-three with two runs scored.
Thomas More returns to action on Sunday (April 10) when it travels to Waynesburg, Pennsylvania for a PAC doubleheader with Waynesburg University. First pitch is scheduled for 1 p.m.
