Box Score 2 (BETHANY, W.Va.) – The Thomas More College softball team split a Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) doubleheader with Bethany College today (Wednesday, April 27, 2016) at the Bethany Softball Diamond in Bethany, West Virginia. The Saints won game one, 4-0, but the Bison won the nightcap, 4-3.
With the split, the Saints are 28-8 overall and 13-3 in the PAC, while the Bison are 19-17 overall and 11-5 in the PAC.
In the first game of the day, Thomas More scored one run in the first, one in the fourth and two in the fifth and senior pitcher Mamee Salzer (Erlanger, Ky./St. Henry) threw a two-hit shutout, while striking out four in the complete game win.
Thomas More had four Saints with multiple hits in the game and was led by freshman right fielder Alix DeDreu (Rising Sun, Ind./Rising Sun), who was three-for-four with a home run, a run scored and two runs batted-in. Senior shortstop Ana Walter (Lebanon, Ohio/Lebanon) was two-for-four, Salzer was two-for-four and sophomore second baseman Sammy Sagers (Cincinnati, Ohio/Oak Hills) was two-for-four with a double and a run scored.
In the nightcap, Bethany took a 3-0 lead in the bottom of the first and then the Saints scored three in the third to tie the game at 3-3. Bethany won the game with a run in the bottom of the sixth inning and holding the Saints scoreless in the seventh for the 4-3 victory.
Thomas More had nine hits in the game and was led by sophomore pitcher Dallis Knotts (Florence, Ky./Boone County), who was two-for-three at the plate.
In the circle, Salzer had a no-decision as she pitched two innings and gave up three runs (all earned) on two hits. Knotts suffered the loss as she pitched four innings of relief and gave up one run (earned) on four hits and struck out one.
The Saints close out the regular season on Friday (April 29) when they host a PAC doubleheader against Westminster College. First pitch is scheduled for 2 p.m. at Thomas More Field in Crestview Hills, Kentucky.
