Box Score 2 (CRESTVIEW HILLS, Ky.) – The Thomas More College softball team split its Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) opening doubleheader with Saint Vincent College today (Saturday, April 2, 2016) at Thomas More Field in Crestview Hills, Kentucky. Saint Vincent won game one, 2-0, but the Saints won game two, 5-4.
With the split the Saints are 14-6 overall and 1-1 in the PAC, while the Bearcats are 13-7 overall and 1-1 in the PAC.
In game on, Saint Vincent scored one run in the first and fifth inning and shutout Thomas More for the 2-0 victory.
Thomas More was led at the plate by freshman right fielder Alix DeDreu (Rising Sun, Ind./Rising Sun), who was two-for-four with a double and sophomore catcher Bree Appel (Amelia, Ohio/Batavia), who was two-for-three with two doubles.
Senior pitcher Mamee Salzer (Erlanger, Ky./St. Henry) suffered the loss in the circle as she pitched seven innings and gave up two runs (both earned) on eight hits and struck out five.
In the nightcap, Thomas More scored two runs in the first, one in the second, one in the fourth and fifth innings and held Saint Vincent to one run in the first, second, fourth and seventh for the 5-4 victory.
Sophomore pitcher Dallis Knotts (Florence, Ky./Boone County) earned the win as she pitched four innings and gave up three runs (all earned) on five hits and struck out three. DeDreu earned the save as she pitched three innings and gave up one run (earned) on three hits and struck out three.
Sophomore second baseman Sammy Sagers (Cincinnati, Ohio/Oak Hills) led the team at the plate as she was three-for-four with a double and two runs batted-in. Three other Saints had multiple hits in the game as Salzer was two-for-four with a RBI, DeDreu was two-for-three with two runs scored and senior short stop Ana Walter (Lebanon, Ohio/Lebanon) was two-for-four with two RBI.
Thomas More returns to the diamond tomorrow when it hosts in-state rival Transylvania University in a non-conference doubleheader. First pitch is scheduled for 1 p.m. at Thomas More Field.
