Thomas More Sweeps Thiel in a PAC Doubleheader

(CRESTVIEW HILLS, Ky.) – The Thomas More College baseball team swept a key Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) doubleheader with Thiel College today (Saturday, April 2, 2016) at Thomas More Field in Crestview Hills, Kentucky.  The Saints won game one, 9-6, and the nightcap, 14-4.

With the sweep, the Saints improve to 10-4 overall and 5-0 in the PAC, while Thiel falls to 11-6 overall and 0-2 in the PAC.

In game one, Thomas More scored one in the first, two in the second, three in the third, four in the first and two in the sixth and held the Tomcats to one run in the first, one in the second, one in the fourth and three in the seventh.

Thomas More was led at the plate by junior right fielder Ben Kenning (Cincinnati, Ohio/Elder), who was three-for-three with two runs batted-in and two runs scored and junior center fielder Casey Metzger (Cincinnati, Ohio/Oak Hills), who was two-for-three with two runs scored.

Senior pitcher Tim Baldrick (Cincinnati, Ohio/Elder) earned the win as he pitched six and two-third innings and gave up six runs (all earned) on seven hits and struck out two.  Junior Ken Ruberg (Cincinnati, Ohio/LaSalle) pitched a-third of an inning and earned the save.

In the nightcap, Thomas More scored five in the first, three in the second, four in the third and two in the fourth, while holding Thiel to three in the third and one in the seventh for the 14-4 victory.

Senior pitcher Brandon Humphrey (Cincinnati, Ohio/LaSalle) earned the win as he pitched all seven innings and gave up four runs (three earned) on seven hits and struck out seven.

At the plate the Saints were by Kenning, who was three-for-four with a home run, a double, three runs scored and five RBI.  Senior left fielder Zach Fardo (Alexandria, Ky./Bishop Brossart) was three-for-four with a run scored and two RBI, Metzger was two-for-two with four runs scored and sophomore second baseman Ben Laumann (Cincinnati, Ohio/Oak Hills) was two-for-three with three runs scored and a RBI.

Thomas More and Thiel close out the three-game PAC series with a single nine-inning game starting at 12 p.m. at Thomas More Field.
