(FLORENCE, KY) – The Thomas More University baseball team split Friday's (April 24) doubleheader against the Malone University Pioneers. The Saints won the first game by a score of 9-2 before falling 14-4 in seven innings in the second game. The Saints move 16-25 overall on the season and 9-17 within the conference.
How they scored
Game 1: Thomas More 9 – Malone 2
- Thomas More got on the board first as junior Matt Resing (Independence, KY / St. Henry) scored on a wild pitch in the first inning.
- Malone scored two runs in the top of the second inning before Thomas More tied it in the bottom half of the inning as sophomore Drew Barth (Fort Thomas, KY / Highlands) scored on another wild pitch.
- Junior Nolan Krekeler (Loveland, OH / Moeller) stole home for the Saints' third run in as many innings.
- In the bottom of the fourth, freshman Ian Mann (Newport, KY / Newport Central Catholic) scored on another wild pitch.
- In the sixth inning, junior Noah McCarty (Louisville, KY / Christian Academy of Louisville) scored from second base as freshman Jack Geers (Harrison, OH / Harrison) singled up the middle. After stealing both second and third base, Jack Geers scored on a double to right center field from Matt Resing.
- Senior Riley Poston (Lancaster, OH / Lancaster) hit a solo home run in the bottom of the seventh before Matt Resing hit a two run homer to left field in the bottom of the eighth inning.
Game 2: Malone 14 – Thomas More 4
- Malone took a 6-0 lead before junior Ty Cunningham (Fairfield, OH / Fairfield) and sophomore Chad Atchley (Peach Grove, KY / Simon Kenton) both scored as Matt Resing doubled in the bottom of the third inning.
- Malone scored five runs in the top of the fourth inning before getting out to a 14-2 lead heading into the bottom of the seventh inning.
- Freshman Theodore Bosio (Grand Rapids, MI / Forest Hills Northern) hit a home run to center field after coming in as a pinch hitter. Freshman Ayden Holden (Williamsburg, OH / Williamsburg) scored on the home run after reaching on a single as a pinch hitter.

Game 1:
- Matt Resing went 3-4 with a double, a triple, and a home run. He had three RBIs and scored twice. He also reached base on a hit by pitch.
- Riley Poston went 2-4 with a single and a home run.
- Nolan Krekeler went 1-5 with a double and scored.
- Jack Geers went 1-5, had two stolen bases, two runs scored, and an RBI.
- Ian Mann went 1-3, drew two walks, stole a base, and scored once.
- Noah McCarty went 2-4 and scored a run.

Game 1:
- Sophomore Arron Wichmann (Burlington, KY / Conner) went 4.0 innings in his first start of the year. He allowed two runs off four hits, two walks and had two strikeouts.
- Redshirt sophomore Joe Stone (Waynesville, OH / Waynesville) pitched five scoreless innings in relief allowing just three hits and recording three strikeouts.
Game 2:
- Senior Kellen Sandhas (Cincinnati, OH / Elder) went two innings in his start.
- Freshman Finn O'Keefe (Loveland, OH / Moeller) and senior Ian Bierbaum (Cincinnati, OH / LaSalle) each had an inning worth of relief.
- Senior Cody Watkins (Liberty Township, OH / Lakota East) went two innings before senior Tony Spangler (Springboro, OH / Springboro) closed out the game.

The Saints will have their final home doubleheader of the season tomorrow (April 25) as they finish the series against Malone. In between the games, Thomas More will honor their nine members of the Class of 2026. First pitch for the first game is scheduled for 12:00 P.M.
