Box Score 2 (CRESTVIEW HILLS, Ky.) – The Thomas More College softball team split a Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) doubleheader with Thiel College today (Saturday, April 16, 2016) at Thomas More Field in Crestview Hills, Kentucky. The Saints won game one, 9-5, and Thiel won the nightcap, 5-1.
With the split, the Saints are now 23-7 overall and 8-2 in the PAC, while the Tomcats are 8-14 overall and 2-4 in the PAC.
In the first game of the day, the Saints scored two runs in the first, four in the second, one in the third and two in the fourth, while holding Thiel to two runs in the second, one in the sixth and two in the seventh for the 9-5 victory.
Senior shortstop Ana Walter (Lebanon, Ohio/Lebanon) led the team at the plate as she was three-for-four with a double, a run scored and two runs batted-in. Two other Saints had multiple hits in the game as sophomore second baseman Sammy Sagers (Cincinnati, Ohio/Oak Hills) was two-for-two with a double, a run scored and two RBI and senior first baseman Staci Stewart (Erlanger, Ky./Lloyd Memorial) was two-for-two with two doubles and a run scored.
Senior pitcher Mamee Salzer (Erlanger, Ky./St. Henry) earned the win in the circle as she pitched seven innings and gave up five runs (two earned) on 10 hits, while striking out three.
In the nightcap, the Saints scored one in the first, but Thiel scored one in the second, two in the sixth and two in the seventh for the 5-1 win.
Freshman right fielder/pitcher Alix DeDreu (Rising Sun, Ind./Rising Sun) led the team at the plate as she was two-for-three.
Sophomore pitcher Dallis Knotts (Florence, Ky./Boone County) suffered the loss in the circle as she pitched five and a third innings and gave up three runs (one earned) on seven hits and struck out one. DeDreu pitched one and two-third innings of relief and gave up two runs (both earned) on four hits and struck out two.
Thomas More returns to action tomorrow as it travels to Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania to play Chatham University in a PAC doubleheader starting at 1 p.m.
