Box Score 2 (CRESTVIEW HILLS, Ky.) – The Thomas More College softball team swept a non-conference doubleheader with Anderson University today (Monday, March 28, 2016) at Thomas More Field in Crestview Hills, Kentucky. The Saints won game one, 5-0, and the nightcap, 10-2, in six innings.
With the sweep the Saints improve to 13-5 overall and the Ravens fall to 8-6 overall.
In game one, the Saints scored two in the third and three in the fourth, while senior pitcher Mamee Salzer (Erlanger, Ky./St. Henry) pitched a complete game shutout giving up five hits and striking out two.
Salzer led the team at the plate as he was three-for-four with a double and two runs batted-in. Sophomore left fielder Dallis Knotts (Florence, Ky./Boone County) was two-for-four at the plate with a RBI and a run scored.
In the night cap, Anderson took a 2-0 lead with a pair of runs in the top of the third, but the Saints would score one in the third, three in the fourth, one in the fifth and five in the sixth for the 10-2 run-rule victory in the sixth inning.
Four Saints had multiple hits in game two. Freshman third baseman Whitney Quillen (Dayton, Ky./Highlands) was three-for-three with a run scored and two RBI, freshman second baseman/pitcher Alix DeDreu (Rising Sun, Ind./Rising Sun) was three-for-four with a double and a run scored, Knotts was two-for-four with a home run, a run scored and two RBI and senior shortstop Ana Walter (Lebanon, Ohio/Lebanon) was two-for-four with a home run, a runs scored and three RBI. Freshman first baseman Mary Beth Odom (Taylor Mill, Ky./Dixie Heights) had a home run in the game.
Knotts had a no-decision in the circle as she pitched three innings giving up two runs (both unearned) on two hits and struck out two. DeDreu earned the win as she pitched three shutout innings of relief and gave up two hits and struck out five.
Thomas More returns to action on Saturday (April 2) when it hosts Saint Vincent College in its Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) opening doubleheader. First pitch is scheduled for 12 p.m. at Thomas More Field.
