Box Score (WAYNESBURG, Pa.) – The Thomas More College baseball team clinched at least a share of the Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) regular season today (Friday, May 1, 2015) as it defeated Waynesburg, 7-2, in the opening game of a three-game series at the Waynesburg Baseball Field in Waynesburg, Pennsylvania.
With the win, the Saints improve to 27-8 overall and 18-4 in the PAC. With a win tomorrow against the Yellow Jackets or a loss by Thiel College to Saint Vincent College, the Saints will clinch the PAC regular season outright and the No. 1 seed in next week's PAC Championship Tournament. With the loss, the Yellow Jackets fall to 17-16-1 overall and 15-7 in the PAC.
The Saints scored a run in the third, two in the eighth and four in the ninth, while they held Waynesburg to a pair of runs in the ninth for the 7-2 victory.
Junior pitcher Logan Miller (Cincinnati, Ohio/LaSalle) earned the win on the mound as he pitched eight shutout innings, giving up only five hits and striking out six. Sophomore pitcher Ken Ruberg (Cincinnati, Ohio/LaSalle) pitched the ninth and gave up two runs (both earned) on two hits.
At the plate, the Saints had four players with multiple hits as freshman third baseman Bailey Abbatiello (Cincinnati, Ohio/LaSalle) was three-for-five with a double and a run scored, junior designated hitter Donovan Pogue (Sharonville, Ohio/St. Xavier) was three-for-four with a run batted-in and two runs scored, sophomore right fielder Ben Kenning (Cincinnati, Ohio/Elder) was two-for-five with a run scored and senior second baseman Tyler Jones (Rising Sun, Ind./Rising Sun) was two-for-four with two RBI.
Thomas More and Waynesburg will close out the three-game series with a doubleheader tomorrow starting at 12 p.m. in Waynesburg, Pennsylvania.
