Box Score (CRESTVIEW HILLS, Ky.) – The Thomas More College baseball team completed a Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) three-game sweep of Saint Vincent College today (Sunday, April 26, 2015) as it defeated the Bearcats, 12-4, at Thomas More Field in Crestview Hills, Kentucky.
With the win, the Saints improve to 25-8 overall and 17-4 in the PAC. With the loss, the Bearcats fall to 16-18 overall and 8-12 in the PAC.
Thomas More scored four runs in the second, five in the fifth and three in the eighth and held Saint Vincent to a pair of runs in the first, one in the fifth and one in the ninth for the 12-4 victory.
Junior pitcher Brandon Humphrey (Cincinnati, Ohio/LaSalle) earned the win on the mound as he pitched seven innings giving up three runs (one earned) on seven hits and struck out six. Freshman pitcher Noah Frantz (Crestwood, Ky./South Oldham) pitched the eighth and didn't allow a hit or run and freshman pitcher Tony LaCorte (Erlanger, Ky./St. Henry) pitched the ninth and gave up one run (earned) on two hits.
Five Saints had multiple hits in the game as freshman third baseman Bailey Abbatiello (Cincinnati, Ohio/LaSalle) was two-for-four with a run batted-in and one run scored, senior first baseman Nick Connor (Cincinnati, Ohio/Elder) was two-for-five with a RBI and a run scored, senior catcher Brad Popham (Erlanger, Ky./Dixie Heights) was two-for-five with a run scored, junior left fielder Zach Fardo (Alexandria, Ky./Bishop Brossart) was two-for-three with a run scored and junior shortstop Marcus Woelfel (Harrison, Ohio/Harrison) was two-for-four with two RBI and a run scored. Junior designated hitter Donovan Pogue (Sharonville, Ohio/St. Xavier) had a three-run home run in the second inning.
Thomas More returns to action on Tuesday (April 28) when it travels to Wilmington, Ohio for a non-conference game with Wilmington College. First pitch is scheduled for 4 p.m.
