Baseball Splits with Ashland on Day Two

(FLORENCE, Ky.)-Thomas More University's baseball team splits with Ashland on Saturday (March 28), winning game one 15-5 (7-innings) and 4-1 in game two (9-innings). The Saints overall record is now 11-12 and 4-7 in conference.

How they scored
Game one: Thomas More won 15-5 (7-innings) over Ashland
  • In the bottom of the second inning, junior Noah McCarty (Louisville, Ky./Christian Academy of Louisville) doubled to left center to score sophomore Chad Atchley (Peach Grove, Ky./Simon Kenton) to put the Saints on the board 1-0. Noah McCarty would advance home on a balk by the pitcher to make it a 2-0 game. First year Jack Geers (Harrison, Ohio/Harrison) doubled to center field to send in first year Sean O'Donnell (Pittsburgh, Pa./North Allegheny) and junior Ty Cunningham (Fairfield, Ohio/Fairfield) to extend the lead to 4-0. Senior Gunner Kalkhoff (Cincinnati, Ohio/LaSalle) singled to center field to score Jack Geers to make it a 5-0 game. Junior Nolan Krekeler (Loveland, Ohio/Moeller) would score on a stolen base then an over thrown ball by the catcher to advance home to put the Saints up 6-0.
  • Ashland scored five runs in the top of the fifth (6-5).
  • In the bottom of fifth inning, the Saints would hit three home runs over the left center field fence. A solo home run by Gunner Kalkhoff to start off the inning (7-5), then a two-run home run by Chad Atchley (9-5), followed by a three-run bomb by Jack Geers to make it a 12-5 game. Nolan Krekeler scored off a double hit to left center by junior Matt Resing (Independence, Ky./St. Henry) (13-5). Ty Cunningham would single to right field to send in Noah McCarty (14-5). Jack Geers would double to left field in the same inning to score Sean O'Donnell to secure the Saints 15-5 win over Ashland.
Game two: Ashland won 4-1 (9-innings) over Thomas More
  • Ashland scored one run in the top of the sixth (0-1).
  • Nolan Krekeler hit a solo home run over the left center field fence to tie things up 1-1.
  • Ashland scored three runs in the top of the ninth 1-4.

Game one:
  • Jack Geers was 3-5 with six RBIs, one home run, two doubles, and scored two runs.
  • Noah McCarty went 2-4 with a double, one RBI, and scored three runs.
  • Gunner Kalkhoff went 2-4 with a home run, two RBIs, and scored one run.

  • Sophomore Logan Cones (Independence, Ky./Simon Kenton) pitched 1.0 innings, allowing no runs off one hit.
  • Senior Ian Bierbaum (Cincinnati, Ohio/LaSalle) pitched 1.0 innings, allowing no runs and no hits and struck out two.
Game two:
  • Senior Jack Perdue (Lousville, Ky./Christian Academy) pitched 5.2 innings, allowing one earned run off seven hits and struck out two.
  • Logan Cones pitched 3.1 innings, allowing three runs with two earned off five hits and struck out one.
