Saints fall to Eagles in series finale

(FLORENCE, KY) – The Thomas More University baseball team fell to Ashland in their final game of the four-game weekend series on Sunday afternoon (March 29) by a score of 10-3. The Saints fall to 11-13 on the season and 4-8 in the conference.
 
How they scored
  • Junior Ty Cunningham (Independence, KY / Simon Kenton) scored in the bottom of the first inning as junior Nolan Krekeler (Loveland, OH / Moeller) had a sacrifice bunt.
  • Ashland responded with a run in the top of the second inning and five runs in the top of the third.
  • Nolan Krekeler scored in the bottom of the third inning on a single to centerfield from freshman Ian Mann (Newport, KY / Newport Central Catholic) to make the score 6-2.
  • Neither team scored until Ashland added four more runs in the top of the eighth.
  • Freshman Jack Geers (Harrison, OH / Harrison) hit a solo home run to center field in the bottom of the ninth but the Saints weren't able to make up the difference.
 
  • Ty Cunningham went 2-4 with a double, a triple, and a walk. He also scored a run.
  • Jack Geers went 1-4 with his home run and drew a walk earlier in the game.
  • Nolan Krekeler went 1-3 with a sacrifice bunt, scored a run and had an RBI.
  • Senior Gunner Kalkhoff (Cincinnati, OH / LaSalle) and junior Matt Resing (Independence, KY / St. Henry) both went 2-5 from the plate.
 
  • Senior Garrett Taulbee (Felicity, OH / Felicity Franklin / Marietta) went 2.2 innings in his start allowing six runs on three hits and struck out two.
  • Freshman Adam Forton (Fort Thomas, KY / Highlands) went 4.1 innings in which he gave up just two hits and no runs. He allowed 1 walk and struck out five of the 16 batters he faced.
  • Sophomore Cameron Snider (Amelia, OH / Bethel-Tate) and freshman Chase Maggard (Hamilton, OH / Badin) each had an inning of work. Chase Maggard allowed just two hits and had one strike out while Cameron Snider gave up four runs on three hits with one walk and one strike out.

The Saints will host a mid-week game against Kentucky State on Tuesday (March 31). First pitch is scheduled for 3:00 PM.
