Box Score (GREENVILLE, Pa.) – The Thomas More College baseball team scored four runs in the ninth inning, but it wasn't enough as the Saints fell, 13-10, to Thiel College today (Thursday, April 23, 2015) in a Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) at Tomcat Park in Greenville, Pennsylvania.
With the loss, the Saints fall to 22-8 overall and 14-4 in the PAC. With the win, the Tomcats improve to 24-9 overall and 13-5 in the PAC.
Thiel scored two runs in the second, one in the third, four in the third, one in the fourth, one in the fifth and one in the sixth, two in the seventh and two in the eighth, while the Saints scored two in the second, one in the fourth, three in the fifth and four in the ninth as the Tomcats won the game, 13-10.
Sophomore center fielder Casey Metzger (Cincinnati, Ohio/Oak Hills) led the team at the plate as he was four-for-five with a double, a run batted-in and two runs scored. Three other Saints had multiple hits in the game as senior first baseman Nick Connor (Cincinnati, Ohio/Elder) was three-for-six with a double and two RBI, senior catcher Brad Popham (Edgewood, Ky./Dixie Heights) was two-for-five with two doubles, a RBI and a run scored and freshman shortstop Ben Shroyer (Pataskala, Ohio/Watkins) was two-for-three with a run scored.
Freshman pitcher Austin Koch (Cincinnati, Ohio/Elder) suffered the loss as he pitched four innings, giving up seven runs (four earned) on nine hits. Freshman pitcher Jayson Essell (Cincinnati, Ohio/Oak Hills) pitched three innings of relief and gave up four runs (two earned) on six hits and struck out one. Junior pitcher Chris Auer (Cincinnati, Ohio/Elder) pitched one inning of relief and gave up two runs (both earned) on three hits.
Thomas More opens a three-game series with Saint Vincent College tomorrow (Friday, April 24) with a doubleheader at Thomas More Field in Crestview Hills, Kentucky. First pitch of the PAC doubleheader is scheduled for 2 p.m.
