Box Score 2 (CRESTVIEW HILLS, Ky.) – The 25th-ranked Thomas More College baseball team dropped both games of a Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) doubleheader with Thiel College today (Tuesday, April 14, 2015) at Thomas More Field in Crestview Hills, Kentucky. Thiel won game one, 3-0, in nine innings and the nightcap, 3-1.
The Saints are now 19-6 overall and 11-3 in the PAC and the Tomcats are 22-7 overall and 12-5 in the PAC.
In the first game of the day, the teams went into extra innings scoreless and Thiel plated three runs in the top of the ninth for the 3-0 victory.
On the mound, freshman pitcher Brandon Eliadis (Laurenceburg, Ky./Anderson County) had a no-decision as he pitched seven shutout innings and gave up four hits, while striking out three. Sophomore Ken Ruberg (Cincinnati, Ohio/LaSalle) suffered the loss as he pitched two innings of relief and gave up three runs (one earned) on two hits and struck out one.
At the plate, junior designated hitter Donovan Pogue (Sharonville, Ohio/St. Xavier), sophomore right fielder Ben Kenning (Cincinnati, Ohio/Elder), senior catcher Brad Popham (Edgewood, Ky./Dixie Heights) and junior left fielder Zach Fardo (Alexandria, Ky./Bishop Brossart) each had a hit.
In the nightcap, Thomas More took a 1-0 lead with a run in the bottom of the third and Thiel answered with three runs in the top of the fourth and held the Saints scoreless over the final four innings for the 3-1 win.
Two Saints had multiple hits in the game as Fardo was two-for-three with a run scored and sophomore catcher Austin Bryant (Fairfield, Ohio/Fairfield) was two-for-three.
Junior pitcher Taylor Smith (Crestview Hills, Ky./Beechwood) suffered the loss on the mound as he pitched five innings and gave up three runs (all earned) on six hits and struck out one. Sophomore pitcher Josh Cain (Cold Springs, Ky./Newport Central Catholic) pitched two no-hit innings of relief.
Thomas More returns to action tomorrow (Wednesday, April 15) when its hosts 23rd-ranked Ohio Northern in a non-conference game. First pitch is scheduled for 4 p.m. at Thomas More Field.
