Box Score 2 (CRESTVIEW HILLS, Ky.) – The Thomas More College softball team swept a Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) doubleheader with Waynesburg University today (Wednesday, April 1, 2015) at Thomas More Field in Crestview Hills, Kentucky. The Saints won game one, 2-1, and the nightcap, 6-2.
With the sweep, the Saints improve to 10-8 overall and 2-0 in the PAC, while the Yellow Jackets fall to 7-13 overall and 1-3 in the PAC.
In game one, Waynesburg took an early 1-0 when it plated a run in the top of the first. Thomas More tied the game in the bottom of the fourth when junior pitcher Mamee Salzer (Erlanger, Ky./St. Henry) hit a home run and then the Saints took the lead in the bottom of the sixth when junior third baseman Krista Summe (Forest Park, Ohio/Cincinnati Christian) hit a home run for the eventual game-winning run and the final score of 2-1.
Salzer earned the win in the circle as she pitched seven innings and gave up one run (unearned) on two hits and struck out seven.
At the plate, Salzer was two-for-two with a home run, a double, a run batted-in and a run scored, while Summe was two-for-three with a RBI and a run scored.
In the nightcap, the Saints scored one in the third, three in the second and two in the third, while holding Waynesburg to one in the third and one in the seventh for the 6-2 victory.
Freshman pitcher Dallis Knotts (Florence, Ky./Boone County) earned the pitching win as she pitched all seven innings and gave up two runs (one earned) on nine hits and struck out two.
Freshman designated player Bree Appel (Amelia, Ohio/Batavia) led the team at the plate as she had a home run. Junior short stop Ana Walter (Lebanon, Ohio/Lebanon), Appel, sophomore second baseman Sammy Hawkins (Columbus, Ohio/Bishop Ready) and senior centerfielder Catie Luck (Maineville, Ohio/Little Miami) each had a hit in the game.
Thomas More has a quick turnaround as it travels to Greenville, Pennsylvania tomorrow for a PAC doubleheader with Thiel College. First pitch is scheduled for 11 a.m.
