Box Score (CRESTVIEW HILLS, Ky.) - The Thomas More College baseball team defeated Waynesburg University, 9-8, today (Sunday, April 13, 2014) to win the three-game Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) series at Thomas More Field in Crestview Hills, Kentucky.
With the win, the Saints improve to 14-10 overall and 9-3 in the PAC and with the loss, the Yellow Jackets fall to 11-16 overall and 7-5 in the PAC.
Thomas More scored three runs in the second, one in the fourth, three in the fifth and two in the eighth, while holding Waynesburg to three runs in the first, two in the fourth, two in the sixth and one in the ninth for the 9-8 win.
Junior catcher Brad Popham (Edgewood, Ky./Dixie Heights) led the Saints at the plate as he was two-for-four with a home run, two runs batted-in and a run scored. Four other Saints had multiple hits in the game as freshman center fielder Casey Metzger (Cincinnati, Ohio/Oak Hills) was two-for-five with a double and a two runs scored, senior third baseman Travis Miller (Erlanger, Ky./St. Henry) was two-for-four with a double and two runs scored, sophomore designated hitter Frank Rosenaker (Cincinnati, Ohio/Elder) was two-for-five with a RBI and a run scored and junior left fielder Nick Connor (Cincinnati, Ohio/Elder) was two-for-two with a RBI.
Sophomore pitcher Brandon Humphrey (Cincinnati, Ohio/LaSalle) had a no-decision as he pitched five and two-third innings and gave up seven runs (three earned) on 10 hits, while striking out eight. Senior pitcher Andy Roenker (Taylor Mill, Ky./Holy Cross) earned the win as he pitched three innings and gave up one run (earned) on four hits and struck out two.
The Saints return to action on Tuesday (April 15) when they host Wittenberg University at 4 p.m. in a non-conference game at Thomas More Field.
