Box Score 2 (CINCINNATI, Ohio) - The Thomas More College volleyball team split two matches today (Saturday, August 31, 2013) at the College of Mount St. Joseph Classic at the Harrington Center in Cincinnati, Ohio. The Saints fell, 3-2, to Centre College, but defeated Hiram College, 3-1.
With the split, the Saints are now 1-1 on the season.
Thomas More fell in the first match of the day to Centre by the scores o 23-25, 12-25, 25-20, 25-21 and 15-9. Offensively, the Saints were led by sophomore outside hitter Stacy Howell (Cincinnati, Ohio/Glen Este), who had 17 kills. Senior middle hitter Tyler Deaton (Lexington, Ky./Lexington Catholic) and freshman middle hitter Alexis Bierbaum (Cincinnati, Ohio/McAuley) each added nine kills and sophomore middle hitter Jessica Knaley (Florence, Ky./St. Henry) finished with eight kills. Sophomore setter Becca Kuhn (Cincinnati, Ohio/Oak Hills) had 45 assists.
In the second match of the day, the Saints defeated Hiram by the scores of 23-25, 25-19, 25-16 and 25-17. Defensively, the Saints had three players with double-digit digs as junior defensive specialist Kelsey Castiglioni (Harrison Township, Mich./L'Anse Creuse) had 22, senior defensive specialist Brittany Rohrkasse (Mason, Ohio/Mount Notre Dame) had 11 and freshman outside hitter Sydney Bragg (Huron, Ohio/Huron) had 10. Offensively, freshman middle hitter/right side Marisa Meyer (Cincinnati, Ohio/Seton) led the team in kills with 12, while Howell added nine, Knaley added eight and Bierbaum had six.
Thomas More returns to action on Wednesday (September 4) when it travels to Hanover, Indiana to play Hanover College. The non-conference match is scheduled to begin at7 p.m.
