Box Score (WASHINGTON, Pa.) - The third-seeded Thomas More College baseball team defeated second-seeded Thiel College, 14-1, today (Thursday, May 9, 2013) in the opening round of the Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) Championship Tournament hosted by Washington & Jefferson College at Ross Memorial Park in Washington, Pennsylvania.
With the win, the Saints improve to 28-12 and will play top-seeded Washington & Jefferson tomorrow at 12 p.m. in the winner's bracket finals. With the loss, the Tomcats fall to 24-17 and will play fourth-seeded Saint Vincent College in an elimination game at 3 p.m.
Thomas More scored six runs in the fourth, two in the fifth, one in the seventh, two in the eighth and three in the ninth and held Thiel to one run in the fifth for the 14-1 victory.
Senior pitcher Paul Uhl (Cincinnati, Ohio/McNicholas) earned the win on the mound as he pitched a complete game nine-innings and gave up one run (earned) on seven hits and struck out two.
Senior shortstop David Kennett (Grove City, Ohio/Grove City) led the team at the plate as he was three-for-five with three runs batted-in. Four other Saints had multiple hits in the game as junior third baseman Travis Miller (Erlanger, Ky./St. Henry) was two-for-four with a double, a triple, a RBI and three runs scored, junior center fielder Cody Makin (Cincinnati, Ohio/Elder) was two-for-five with two doubles and three runs scored, freshman second baseman Marcus Woelfel (Harrison, Ohio/Harrison) was two-for-two with a double, three RBI and two runs scored and senior designated hitter David Etscheid (Union, Ky./Ryle) was two-for-four with a double, two RBI and two runs scored.
