Box Score 2 (WAYNESBURG, Pa.) - The Thomas More College baseball team split Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) doubleheader with Waynesburg University today (Saturday, April 20, 2013) at the Waynesburg Baseball Field in Waynesburg, Pennsylvania. The Saints won game one, 2-1, but fell, 1-0, in the nightcap.
With the split, the Saints are now 21-8 overall and 11-5 in the PAC and the Yellow Jackets are 14-14 overall and 7-9 in the PAC.
In game one, Waynesburg took an early 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first, but the Saints rallied and scored on in the top of the third and one in the top of the sixth for the 2-1 victory.
Senior pitcher Paul Uhl (Cincinnati, Ohio/McNicholas) earned the win on the mound as he pitched six innings and gave up one run (earned) on eight hits. Senior pitcher David Etscheid (Union, Ky./Ryle) earned the save as he pitched a scoreless seventh inning and didn't allow a hit, while striking out two.
At the plate, the Saints were led by sophomore left fielder Nick Connor (Cincinnati, Ohio/Elder), who was two-for-three with a double and freshman second baseman Marcus Woelfel (Harrison, Ohio/Harrison), who was two-for-three. Senior right fielder Ryan Darner (Burlington, Ky./Covington Catholic) and sophomore catcher Brad Popham (Edgewood, Ky./Dixie Heights) each had a run batted-in.
In the nightcap, the Yellow Jackets plated two runs in the bottom of the sixth and held the Saints scoreless for the 2-0 victory.
At the plate, Darner was one-for-two with a double and junior third baseman Travis Miller (Erlanger, Ky./St. Henry) was one-for-three.
Sophomore pitcher Tim Baldrick (Cincinnati, Ohio/Elder) suffered the loss on the mound as he pitched six innings and gave up two runs (both earned) on four hits and struck out one.
The two teams will close out the three-game PAC series tomorrow with a single nine-inning game at the Waynesburg Baseball Field. First pitch is scheduled for 12 p.m.
