Box Score 2 (CRESTVIEW HILLS, Ky.) - The Thomas More College softball team swept a Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) doubleheader with Waynesburg University today (Monday, April 1, 2013) at Thomas More Field in Crestview Hills, Kentucky. The Saints won game one, 9-0, in six innings and the nightcap, 6-4.
With the sweep, the Saints improve to 12-10 overall and 3-1 in the PAC and the Yellow Jackets fall to 8-6 overall and 0-2 in the PAC.
In game one, the Saints scored six in the fifth and three in the sixth and held the Yellow Jackets scoreless for the 9-0 victory.
Freshman pitcher Mamee Salzer (Erlanger, Ky./St. Henry) earned the win in the circle as she pitched six shutout innings and gave up six hits, while striking out eight.
Salzer led the Saints at the plate as she was four-for-four with a run batted-in and two runs scored. Two other Saints had multiple hits in the game as sophomore second baseman Hannah Curtis (Cincinnati, Ohio/Colerain) was two-for-three with two runs scored and junior first baseman Stefaney Turner (Franklin, Ohio/Carlisle) was two-for-four with two RBI.
In the nightcap, Thomas More plated five runs in the fourth and one in the sixth, while holding Waynesburg to two runs in the third and two in the sixth for the 6-4 victory.
Junior third baseman Alex Walter (Lebanon, Ohio/Lebanon) led the team offensively as she was two-for-three with a run scored and freshman short stop Anna Walter (Lebanon, Ohio/Lebanon) was one-for-three with two RBI.
In the circle, junior pitcher Ronni Burn (Dayton, Ohio/Carroll) earned the win as she pitched all seven innings and gave up four runs (two earned) on six hits and struck out 10.
Thomas More returns to action on Saturday (April 6) when it travels to Washington, Pennsylvania to play Washington & Jefferson College in a PAC doubleheader. First pitch is scheduled for 1 p.m. at Brooks Park.
