Box Score 2 (WESTERVILLE, Ohio) - The Thomas More College volleyball team fell twice today (Friday, August 31, 2012) on the first day of the Capital University/Otterbein University Invitational at the Rike Center in Westerville, Ohio. The Saints fell, 3-1, to host Otterbein and then fell, 3-1, to 18th-ranked University of Mount Union.
With the two losses, the Saints fall to 0-2.
In the first match of the day, the Saints fell to Otterbein by the scores of 25-18, 13-25, 25-16, 25-23. Thomas More was led offensively by sophomore outside hitter Karsen Cronin (Fairfield, Ohio/Fairfield), who had 12 kills, while senior setter Tori Verville (Edgewood, Ky./Holy Cross), sophomore outside hitter/right side Felicity Britt (Alexandria, Ky./Bishop Brossart) and freshman middle hitter Jessica Knaley (Florence, Ky./St. Henry) each had five kills.
Junior defensive specialist Brittany Rohrkasse (Mason, Ohio/Mount Notre Dame) led the team with service aces with four, while sophomore defensive specialist Christina Brackett-Newport (Louisville, Ky./Seneca) added three. Verville led the team in assists with 29.
Defensively, the Saints were led by sophomore defensive specialist Kelsey Castiglioni (Harrison Township, Mich./L'Anse Creuse) and Verville with 15 and 11 digs respectively. Knaley led the team in blocks with five total blocks.
In the second match of the day, Thomas More fell to Mount Union by the scores of 25-18, 25-22, 18-25 and 25-8. No stats have been made public for this match.
The Saints will compete on the second day of the Capital/Otterbein Invitational tomorrow (September 1) when they play Capital at 9:30 a.m. and Transylvania University at 12 p.m. at The Capital Center in Columbus, Ohio.
