Thomas More Sweeps PAC Doubleheader With Waynesburg On the Road

(WAYNESBURG, Pa.) - The Thomas More College softball team swept Waynesburg University today (Tuesday, April 3, 2012) in a Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) doubleheader at Yellow Jacket Field in Waynesburg, Pennsylvania.  The Saints won game one, 4-3, and the nightcap, 5-4, in nine innings.

With the sweep, the Saints improve to 15-11 overall and 2-2 in the PAC and the Yellow Jackets fall to 7-12 overall and 4-8 in the PAC.

In game one, the Saints scored two in the fifth and two in the seventh, while they held Waynesburg to two in the third and one in the seventh for the 4-3 victory.

Sophomore catcher Stefaney Turner (Carlisle, Ohio/Franklin) led the Saints at the plate as she was two-for-three with a double and three runs batted-in, while freshman center fielder Katie Luck (Maineville, Ohio/Little Miami) was two-for-four with a run scored.

In the pitching circle, sophomore Ronni Burns (Dayton, Ohio/Carroll) earned the win as she pitched all seven innings and gave up three runs (all earned) on nine hits and struck out three.

In the game two, the Saints scored one in the second and three in the fourth, while Waynesburg scored one the in second and three in the fourth to force extra innings.  In the bottom of the ninth innings with one out, Turner hit an RBI single scoring Luck for the game-winning run.

Burns earned the win in the pitching circle as she pitched five and one-third innings of relief and gave up only one hit, while striking out four.

Offensively, three Saints had multiple hits in the game as Turner was two-for-five with a RBI, Luck was two-for-five with a run scored and senior left fielder Angie Sandamann (Morrow, Ohio/Little Miami) was two-for-four with a double, two RBI and a run scored.

Thomas More returns to the diamond on Saturday (April 7) when it hosts Washington & Jefferson College in a 1 p.m. PAC doubleheader at Thomas More Field in Crestview Hills, Kentucky.
