Box Score 2 (CINCINNATI, Ohio) - The Thomas More College softball team swept a non-conference doubleheader with across-the-river rival, the College of Mount St. Joseph tonight (Tuesday, March 20, 2012) at the Kinder Morgan Softball Complete in Cincinnati, Ohio. The Saints won game one, 3-1, and the nightcap, 2-0.
With the sweep, the Saints improve to 12-6 and the Lions fall to 1-8.
In game one, the Saints scored one in the third and two in the sixth and held the Lions to one run in the seventh for the 3-1 victory.
Sophomore Sara Young (Okeana, Ohio/Mount Notre Dame) earned the win in the pitching circle as she pitched seven inning giving up one run on four hits and striking out six.
Offensively, freshman right fielder Catie Luck (Maineville, Ohio/Little Miami) was the lone Saint with multiple hits as she was two-for-four with a run scored, while sophomore catcher Stefaney Turner (Franklin, Ohio/Carlisle) and sophomore designated player Morgan Pennekamp (Cincinnati, Ohio/Seton) each had a double.
In the second game, the Saints scored two runs in the sixth and held MSJ scoreless.
Sophomore Ronni Burns (Dayton, Ohio/Carroll) pitched seven scoreless innings and only allowed one hit, while striking out three for the win.
At the plate, the Saints were led by Turner, who was two-for-three with a run batted-in and senior left fielder Angie Sandmann (Morrow, Ohio/Little Miami), who was two-for-three.
Thomas More is idle until next Wednesday (March 28) when it host in-state rival Transylvania University in a 3:30 p.m. non-conference doubleheader at Thomas More Field in Crestview Hills, Kentucky.
