Meg Pierani's Record Setting Day Propels Saints to Win Over Lake Erie

Box Score (PAINESVILLE, OH) – The Thomas More University women's lacrosse team defeated Lake Erie on Wednesday (April, 17th) by a score of 15 to 10. Sophomore Meg Pierani's (Bright, IN / Mercy McAuley) record setting day helped propel the Saints offense. Pierani broke the career points record along with surpassing the 100 points in a career mark. She is the first Saint to pass that milestone in program history. This victory earns Thomas More a spot in the Great Midwest Conference Tournament. Thomas More moves to an overall record of 2-13 on the season and 2-4 in G-MAC play.

  • Meg Pierani got the Saints started with back to back unassisted goals to open the game and giving the Saints a 2-0 lead.
  • Lake Erie make it a 2 to 1 game with a goal midway thru the opening quarter.
  • Senior Madi Carle (Cincinnati, OH / Mercy McAuley) found the net off an assist from first year Anna Wells (West Chester, OH / Lakota West) to make it 3 to 1.
  • First year Alexis Denman (Cincinnati,OH / Mercy McAuley) scored on an assist from first year Alex Nunn (Loveland, OH / Loveland) to extend the Saint lead to 3.
  • Alex Nunn capped off a great opening quarter with a goal off an assist from sophomore Sarah Metz (Middletown, OH / Little Miami) to make it 5 to 1.
  • Lake Erie opened the second quarter with 2 goals to make it 5 to 3.
  • Meg Pierani tallied her third goal on the day and Alex Nunn followed with a goal off an assist from Sarah Metz to make it a 7 to 3 game.
  • Sarah Metz picked up her third assist of the half as she found Anna Wells for another Saint goal.
  • Lake Erie added three goals before half to make it an 8 to 6 game.
  • Anna Wells opened the second half with a goal to give the Saints a 9 to 6 lead.

  • Anna Wells finds the back of the net to extend the Saint lead to 7 in the closing minutes of the third quarter.

  • Denman opened the final quarter with her third goal of the day off an assist from Alex Nunn to make it a 15 to 6 game.
  • Lake Erie answered with 3 goals to bring the score to 15 to 9 with 5 minutes to go.

  • Meg Pierani led the Saints with 6 goals on the day bringer her career points total to 101 which marks a new record for the program.

The Saints will return to action on Saturday (April 20th) for their regular season finale against the Ursuline Arrows. That game is at Republic Bank Field and scheduled to start at 12:00 PM.
