Softball Moves on in the Mid South Tournament with a Split on Thursday

(Bowling Green, Ky.) – The Thomas More University softball split a pair of games on Thursday (May 4th) afternoon in the Mid South Conference Tournament. The Saints dropped the first game of the day to the number 3 seed, Freed-Hardeman by a score of 8 to 4. Saints battled back and took down the 8th seeded Lindsey Wilson in an elimination game by a score of 2 to 1. Thomas More moves to an overall record of 27-18 on the season.

Game 1: #3 Freed-Hardeman defeats #6 Thomas More (Ky.), 8-4:
  • Sophomore Karys Black (Burlington, Ky. / Boone County) reached on an error by the second baseman that scored the first run for the Saints. (1-0)
  • First year Sophia Thoma (Cleves, Ohio / Taylor) hit an RBI double to continue the top of the first inning for the Saints. (2-0)
  • Senior Becca Mowen (Eaton, Ohio / Eaton) singles up the middle to bring home another Thomas More run in the first inning. (3-0)
  • Junior Kai Dickerson (Walton, Ky. / Ryle) hits an RBI single to cap off a 4 run opening frame for Thomas More. (4-0)
  • Freed-Hardeman scores a run in the second inning to get on the scoreboard. (4-1)
  • The Lions score 4 runs in the bottom half of the 5th inning to take the lead. (4-5)
  • Freed-Hardeman score 3 more runs in the 6th inning to extend their lead. (4-8)

  • Senior Annika Gels (Eaton, Ohio / Eaton) pitched 5.2 innings for the Saints. She allowed earned runs on 12 hits, striking out 4.
  • First year Maddy Henry (Cincinnati, Ohio / Mercy McAuley) pitched 0.1 innings for the Saints. Striking out a batter.
Game Two:
  • Maddy Henry pitched 4.0 innings for the Saints. Allowing 1 run on 3 hits, and striking out 2.
  • Annika Gels pitched 3.0 innings for the Saints. Allowing 0 runs and 1 hit, striking out 1. She picked up the win for the Saints.

Thomas More will return to the diamond tomorrow afternoon (May 5th), when they play in another elimination game against the loser of the Cumberland (Tenn.) vs. Cumberlands (Ky.) game tomorrow morning.
