Softball's Season Comes to Close Following Loss to Cumberland (Tenn.)

(Bowling Green, Ky.) – The Thomas More University softball team fell in an elimination game of the Mid South Conference Tournament to Cumberland (Tenn.) on Friday afternoon (May 5th) by a score of 13 to 9. The Saints season comes to an end with a final record of 27-19.


 
 

• Sophomore Karys Black (Burlington, Ky. / Boone County) got the Saints on the scoreboard first with an RBI single. (1-0)
• Junior Delaney Kemper (Williamstown, Ky. / Williamstown) followed with a 3 run home run to make it a 4 run first inning for the Saints. (4-0)
• Cumberland would score 2 runs in the first, 3 in the second, and one more in the 4th to take the lead. (4-6)
• Senior Becca Mowen (Eaton, Ohio / Eaton) hits a grand slam in the 5th to give the Saints back the lead. (8-6)
• Graduate student Maclai Branson (Union, Ky. / Ryle) hits a single that brings home a run off an error to extend the lead. (9-6)
• Cumberland scored 5 runs in the 5th and 2 runs in the 6th to retake the lead. (9-13)

 
 

• Becca Mowen went 1-3 at the plate with 4 RBIs, a run scored, a walk and a home run.
• Delaney Kemper went 1-3 at the plate with 3 RBIs, a run scored, and a home run.
• Junior Josie Wefer (Cincinnati, Ohio / Oak Hills) went 2-3 at the plate with a run scored and a walk.
• First year Sophia Thomas (Cleves, Ohio / Taylor) went 2-4 at the plate with a double.
• Karys Black went 2-5 at the plate with 2 runs scored and an RBI.

 
 

• Senior Annika Gels (Eaton, Ohio / Eaton) pitched 5.1 innings for the Saints. She allowed 5 earned runs on 13 hits, striking out 2.
• First year Maddy Henry (Cincinnati, Ohio / Mercy McAuley) pitched 0.2 innings for the Saints. Allowing 2 earned runs on 1 hit. 

 

The Thomas More Saints will return to the softball diamond next spring for their 2024 season.
