Softball Sweeps Asbury in Non-Conference Double Header

(CRESTVIEW HILLS, Ky.)-Thomas More University's softball team swept Asbury on Monday (April 17), 7-6 in game one and 8-0 in five innings in game two.The Saints overall record improves to 22-15.

How they scored

Game 1: Thomas More 7-6
  • In the bottom of the first inning, graduate student Maclai Branson (Union, Ky./Ryle) singled down the middle to send in senior Hailey McAdoo (Cincinnati, Ohio/Mercy McAuley) to put the Saints on the board 1-0. Junior Josie Wefer (Cincinnati, Ohio/Oak Hills) would step up to the plate next and single to center field to advance Maclai Branson home (2-0). Sophomore Karys Black (Burlington, Ky./Boone County) singled in the top of the first to score Jose Wefer to extend the lead to 3-0.
  • Karys Black would double in the bottom of the third inning off the left field fence to score junior Delaney Kemper (Williamstown, Ky./Williamstown) (4-0). Karys Black would score off a dropped ball thrown to the catcher at home plate off of a single hit by senior Sydney Bledsoe (Cincinnati, Ohio/Oak Hills) (5-0).
  • Asbury scored two runs in the top of the fourth inning (5-2).
  • Jose Wefer doubled down the left field line in the bottom of the fifth inning to score Maclai Branson (6-2).
  • Asbury score two runs in the top of the fifth and two runs in the top of the sixth to tie the game up at 6-6.
  • Maclai Branson would lead the Saints off in the bottom of the sixth inning with a lead off home run over the left center field fence to win the game for the Saints (7-6).
Game 2:
  • Josie Wefer would single down the middle to score Hailey McAdoo to get things started for the Saints in the bottom of the first inning (1-0). Delaney Kemper would step up the plate next and hit a sac fly to right field to send in Maclai Branson to extend the lead to 2-0. Josie Wefer scored off an error by the center fielder hit by Karys Black to put the Saints up 3-0.
  • In the bottom of the third inning, Karys Black hit a ball to deep right field that bounced over the fence for a ground rule double to send in Delaney Kemper to make it a4-0 game. 
  • Maclai Branson would hit her 21st double of the season down the left field line to advance Hailey McAdoo home in the bottom of the fourth inning (5-0). Josie Wefer would follow with a back to back double, to send home Maclai Branson to extend the Saints lead to 6-0. Karys Black singled to left field to score Josie Wefer in the bottom of the fourth inning to make it a 7-0 game.
  • Junior Sarah Caruso (Rootstown, Ohio/Rootstown) scored the Saints final run of the game in the bottom of the fifth inning off of a wild pitch to end the game (8-0).


Game 1:
  • Maclai Branson went 3-4 at the plate with one double, one home run, two RBIs, and scored three runs.
  • Josie Wefer was 3-4 with a double, two RBIs, and scored one run.
  • Karys Black had a perfect day at the plate going 3-3 with two doubles, two RBIs, and scored one run. 
  • Sydney Bledsoe went 1-2.
Game 2:
  • Hailey McAdoo was 2-4 at the plate and scored two runs.
  • Maclai Branson went 2-3 with one double, one RBI, and scored two runs.
  • Josie Wefer was 2-3 with one double, two RBIs, and scored two runs. 
  • Karys Black recorded one double, going 2-3 at the plate and had two RBIs.
  • Delaney Kemper went 1-2 with one double, one RBI, and scored one run.


Game 1:
  • Senior Annika Gels (Eaton, Ohio/Eaton) pitched 2 innings, allowing no runs off of two hits, and struck out three.
  • Junior Cassidy King (Huber Heights, Ohio/Wayne) pitched two innings, allowing two earned runs off of two hits, and struck out one.
  • Sophomore Emma Kent (Hamilton, Ohio/Badin) pitched 1.1 innings, allowing four runs with three being earned off of four hits, and struck out one.
  • First Year Maddy Henry (Cincinnati, Ohio/Mercy McAuley) pitched 1.2 innings, allowing no runs and no hits, and struck out one.
Game 2:
  • Karys Black pitched four innings, giving up no runs off of three hits, and struck out two.
  • Senior Emily Wisman (Okeana, Ohio/Harrison) pitched one inning, giving up no runs off of one hit, and struck out one.
