Saints Split on Saturday but Take Series Over Pikeville

(Pikeville, Ky) – The Thomas More University softball team split a pair of games with Pikeville on Saturday (April, 15th) afternoon. Game 1 was picked up in the second inning after being delayed last night as the Saints fell 5 to 10. The Saints would battle back and beat Pikeville 11 to 1 in game 2. The Saints move to 20-14 on the season and hold a 9-10 record in Mid South Conference play.

 How they scored

Game One: Pikeville defeats Thomas More, 10-5.
  • Graduate Student Maclai Brandon (Union, Ky. / Ryle) opened the game for the Saints with a home run to put them out in front. (1-0)
  • Pikeville would score 6 runs in the 2nd and 4th innings to take the lead. (1-6)
  • Branson hit a 2 RBI triple in the 5th to give Thomas More some life. (3-6)
  • Senior Sydney Bledsoe (Cincinnati, Ohio / Oak Hills) hit an RBI single that got the Saints within 2. (4-6)
  • Pikeville would score 4 more runs in the 6th inning. (4-10)
  • Junior Delaney Kemper (Williamstown, Ky. / Williamstown) hit an RBI single in the 7th. (5-10)
Game Two: Thomas More defeats Pikeville, 11-1.
  • Kemper hit a solo home run in the top of the second to put Thomas More on the scoreboard. (1-0)
  • A walk from senior Kaylee Beal (Bright, Ind. / East Central) and an RBI fielders choice from first year Sophia Thomas (Cleves, Ohio / Taylor) scored two more runs for the Saints. (3-0)
  • Thoma would hit an RBI single in the 5th that was followed by a 2 RBI single from Bledsoe to make it a 6 run game. (6-0)
  • Pikeville scored one run in the 5th.
  • Sophomore Karys Black (Burlington, Ky. / Boone County) hit an RBI double to score another run. (7-1)
  • Maclai Branson hit a grand slam in the 7th that plates four more runs for the Saints. (11-1)

 

Game One:
  • Branson went 3-4 at the plate with a home run, a triple, 2 RBIs, and 2 runs scored.
  • Delaney Kemper went 2-4 at the plate with an RBI, and a run scored.
  • Sydney Bledsoe went 2-3 at the plate with an RBI and a run scored.
  • Sophia Thomas and junior Josie Wefer (Cincinnati, Ohio / Oak Hills) each hit doubles for the Saints.
Game Two:
  • Branson went 3-5 at the plate with 4 RBIs, 2 runs scored, and a home run.
  • Sophia Thomas went 2-3 at the plate with 2 RBIs and 2 runs scored.
  • Kemper hit a home run and went 1-3 at the plate. She recorded an RBI and 2 runs scored.
  • Sydney Bledsoe went 2-4 at the plate with 2 RBIs.

 

Game One:
  • Karys Black went 2.0 innings, allowing 5 runs (2 earned) on 4 hits.
  • Junior Cassidy King (Huber Heights, Ohio / Wayne) pitched 3.1 innings, allowing 5 runs (2 earned) on 3 hits and striking out 2.
  • First year Maddy Henry (Cincinnati, Ohio / Mercy McAuley) went 0.2 innings and didn't allow a baserunner.
  • Annika Gels (Eaton, Ohio/Eaton) threw a complete game, striking out seven and giving up three runs while only walking one batter for her fifth win of the season.
Game Two:
  • Senior Annika Gels (Eaton, Ohio/Eaton) threw a complete game, striking out four batters and only allowing 1 run on 5 hits. Picking up her 7th victory of the season.

The Saints will be back in action on Monday (April 17th) when they host Asbury at Thomas More Softball Field. First pitch is scheduled for 3:00 PM ET.
